Those early 35's are strong; talk about a "boy dog", they are that. You did a wonderful job, Michael. And very educational. I don't know who passed gas at 23:53, but it was a jack-whopper. Yes, it is normal for some water to come out the two top holes. Temp on the thermostat cover at warmed up idle should be right at 140 degrees. Next time you remove the starter to get the carb off one of these models you might consider leaving all the wiring hooked up. Then you can lean the starter over the port side of the lower motor cover and the wiring will hold it. It saves time and trouble - and does no harm to anything. Thanks again for another great video.

Funny that was my son imitating the motor. Believe it or not I have to take the carb back off and you will see why in the next video. I will follow your advice. Thanks for watching and commenting

Hey! Great stuff love the channel! You have done alot for me when it comes to the awsome OMC collections. Helpful parts knowledge. That coolant hose is nothing more than automotive vacuum hose made by 1/32 of an inch. Its easier than ordering online, or looking for parts numbers. I worked on a 25 HP and replaced the coolant by the carb like yours. 5/32 vacuum hose fits like a glove and is dirt cheap at any auto store. You and the vids are awesome !!

Good Stuff! I purchased Honda 50 (used ) last year and after 5 trips (5 hrs. use) I noticed wobble in prop shaft when turning by hand.I took it to marine repair shop where they determined the outer carrier bearing was not installed. Amazing that thing got me back in when a storm came up suddenly.It was a little bit hard to come up with the new bearing during Covid times but we are up and running right again.Parts temporarily scarce here in Western Canada. I have a 1978 Johnson 35hp that came with a 10.5 X 11 SST prop and worked very well on my old 16' 76 Sylvan. Hub spun out after 40+ yrs and was replaced with the Solas 10.5 X 11. (2211-105-11).

Hello Michael, On my 20Hp Johnson the second little clip ( Bearing Clamp PN 0320523) goes behind the vertical linkage shaft. (Control lever) 0320523. I did the same thing on my engine a couple of weeks ago when rebuilding the carb. But I had the powerhead off a couple of years ago so I know there was no way that little clamp was there before. very respectively. Jeff

one can do the math on theoretical boat speed. engine max rpm x gear ratio= prop speed in rpm. prop rpm x 60 = inches per hour. iph divided by 63,360 = mph. of course this is theoretical and the outcome id dependant on slip. but i'm sure you dont care as ong as it works lol. i'd say you got the filming down looks good!
@Michaelsbackyardmarina

I have played around with those numbers as well. Hull shape and weight play a big part as you well know. Thanks for noticing the filming. Much appreciated. Thanks for watching and commenting.

A little aviation Permatex on the starter bolt should keep it in place. :-) (my dad was an airplane mechanic for 35 years) Is that something you use in your shop? I would be interested in your thoughts about, Antisies, thread lockers, and other items you keep on hand. I was shocked the first time I started looking up the goops and lubes that the manufacture recommends for outboard engines.
@Michaelsbackyardmarina

Since I'm not around saltwater I only use a little anti seize on bolts that potentially could be problematic. I rarely put anything on gaskets. I usually let the gasket do the job it was designed for. Thanks again for watching

if it is too hard to pull then some of the carb timing and adjustment may be off a bit.

Hey fox, I have just discovered your videos which are very interesting, because I am a recreational fisherman and often we are confronted with the problems of the engines out and as luck would have it I own a 9.9 Johnson for a 5m boat and I find that it is little as a motor. I have some part in one of your videos since you turned a 9.9 Johnson into a 15hp do you want friend explain to me what to do, thank you bro.

Solas props are the best. Their aluminum props are squeeze casted so they are much more dense than the OEM props. I used to sell them as a distributor. We essentially replace the pitch of the prop to keep the engine in the recommended operating rpm band. So if your engine is suppose to be running between 5300-6000 rpm and you are running 6200rpm on a 19” prop then you are over revving. To get into that 5300-6000 rpm band you would need to pitch up to a 21” pitch which would drop you to around 6000rpm. A change in pitch of 2” will bring your rpm up or down by around 200-300 revs.
