OK, well nice work on the head gasket. I do like those aftermarket head gaskets because of that metal sealing rings. You must have a very high level of water in those buckets/tanks or the pump will not work. It's a great pump, but give it a chance to pull/pump air and that is what will happen. The problem is that when you run the pump dry like that, the rubber water pump impeller melts and gets ruined quickly. They all sound good in the tank, especially in neutral! But, this one is definitely running on one cylinder, not a carburetor or fuel pump issue. I feel you are on the right track by looking for connection problems. Someone has been into this thing before you, and used aftermarket ignition coils. The good news is that those under flywheel components rarely fail, so I am very confident that your problem is not under the flywheel. I like your simple approach to troubleshooting the ignition. 9 out of 10 ignition problems are simple ones, such as bad grounds, or poor connections. Those rubber amphenol connections get ruined/bad connections easily. Have a close look at all those pins/sockets, make sure none are bent or pushed back into the connector.
