These old races are NASCAR gold. The picture clarity is so much better than i remember watching it on TV. When i came to Atlanta Raceway for the Nov. 1980 "Atlanta Journal 500" King Richard Petty's reverse paint scheme STP Chevy was almost blinding to look at.

This was what we got for race coverage back in the day. A few live laps then back to championship wood splitting in Alaska. Then back for a few more laps and back to sumo wrestling and then back for the last two laps and no post race interviews 😟

Does anybody miss the old Atlanta cause this seems so wide and banked perfect for the cars and racing

I am pretty sure I have already watched this one. I remember DW’s smartmouth comment as well as Rusty’s incredible debut in the Cup series.

POINT STANDINGS and WINS before the 1980 ATLANTA 500 (5 of 31): #2 Dale Earnhardt (660 points, Chevrolet) #43 Richard Petty (-52, Chevrolet) #15 Bobby Allison (-55, Ford) #88 Darrell Waltrip (-82 with 2 wins, Chevrolet) #44 Terry Labonte (-139, Chevrolet) #71 Dave Marcis (-143, Chevrolet) #3 Richard Childress (-168, Chevrolet) #48 James Hylton (-175, Chevrolet) #11 Cale Yarborough (-177 with 1 win, Chevrolet) Meanwhile, Benny Parsons (Chevrolet) was 15th and Joe Millikan (Chevrolet) dropped to 17th. Buddy Baker (Chevrolet) won 1 of 2 starts of his season so far. Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. I’m also using the unsponsored names of the races. In Atlanta’s case, the Spring race was the Atlanta 500 while the Fall one was the Dixie 500.

Those two wrecks in 3 & 4 - four years earlier Earnhardt had his vicious tumble in that very area

Seen today, Atlanta International Raceway then resembles an outsized version of Thompson Speedway

How many "full races" are you going to upload that aren't full races?
@youdud449 ай бұрын
ABC Wide World of Sports broadcasts were as full as you would get outside of the Daytona 500/CBS broadcasts at this time. Flag-to-flag coverage we know today wasn't commonplace until ESPN began broadcasting races the following year in 1981.

Wide World of Sports never broadcasted full coverage of any event. They toggled between different sports from around the world.
