Thanks mate. Pretty helpful. I just got myself a GS 1000 G and I'm busy pulling her apart and slowly fixing her up. Although she's not in bad shape tbh.

Would have been nice for you to show, which way the seal goes in as the seal is slightly larger on one side.

Thanks for this. Do you know what the tire valve thing under the fork cap does? Mine's fallen apart a bit, and I'm wondering if it even matters.
@MotoMedic3 жыл бұрын
That's for adding some preload to the suspension.
@ImminghamIronhead3 жыл бұрын
@@MotoMedic Cheers for that; I ordered a new one (well, 2 new ones as the forks are over 40 years old now, so the other's on borrowed time)

@@MotoMedichow much pressure should we add? Also can we use 10w20 motor oil. If no fork oil available..? Thanks
@MotoMedic Жыл бұрын
@@Swokpmund I'd check the manual or ask on a forum or group. It's typically not much. Maybe 4 or 5 psi. But definitely check.
@MotoMedic Жыл бұрын
@@Swokpmund no on the regular oil. Use only fork oil. It is vastly different. Order it online if you have to.

What is the outside dimensions, flat to flat, on the spark plug tool you used to remove the forks innards. Trying to make build a tool I can use with nuts and threaded rod.

@@CageFreeTom I will get back to you on that. I have the tool still in my rollaway at home.

Where about a is your shop located? Do you still work on these old bikes?
@MotoMedic3 жыл бұрын
My shop used to be located in Bakersfield, California, but I live in North Idaho now. No shop but on occasion I'll bring an old bike into the shop for some love.

So is adding air not needed?
@MotoMedicАй бұрын
No... you'll add a few lbs depending on the specifications.
