Had a 1978 GS1000. Never did the carbs on it. It was new when I got it, and I sold it a couple years later. Had a 1980 KZ1000 and did the carbs on it. I'm not a mechanic but I am pretty good at following instructions.

@@MotoMedic thanks. I miss him so much. He always wanted to restore this bike. We used to ride it all the time back in 04-05. I've got a rebuild kit for the carbs. I should be able to handle that. I'm not sure how to sync them though. Do i need a special tool?
@MotoMedic
@MotoMedic 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshsutcliffe6099 you can use a small feeler gauge or even a guitar string to bench synch each butterfly valve. It'll get you where they're at least all the same, then fine tune from there, or go pick up a synch tool and watch a few videos on how they work... Helps having the service manual for that.

@@joshsutcliffe6099 I'd do whatever I could to get it off of the bike and throw it in a vat of solvent or maybe even let it soak in some lightweight oil. Or chuck it in the old bin and hit eBay for a replacement! 😁 Good luck man!

I see you didn't remove the float assembly pivot pin on camera...it's a difficult procedure. Pin impact tool is helpful there, as it's easy to break stanchions. Looks like a screwdriver with a sharpened end, you push, it loads pressure, lets go and knocks pin out.

Great video, thank you. I need help, and I have a question if I may bother you? I am rebuilding the same carburetors on the bottom side of the carburetors where you put the Jets in and the needle and seat in. In fact directly on the other side of the carburetor from where the needle and seat is, there is a hole with an aluminum plug in it. I think these are called Welch plugs, the set of carburetors I have are missing one of these plugs, and I'm having an extremely hard time trying to find the right part or even the part number do you have any advice? Please 🙏 and thank you

Due to these being such an old bike I'm not sure where I'd know off hand. Start maybe at www.partzilla.com and see what they have. If discontinued... copy the part number and paste into a search on Ebay. Might get you what you need!

So my issue right now on my 1982 GS850GL is that: 1) the T-joints are leaking fuel. Should I just purchase whole new t joints from partzilla for $20~$30 each or is this an o-ring package that will do the trick. 2) the bike only runs on starter fluid, I figured the jets might be way too lean since I haven't rejetted since I put pod filters on, but I wasn't sure if it could be related to something else I didn't know about.
@MotoMedic
@MotoMedic 4 жыл бұрын
Answers to both would be a hard yes. For that cheap might as well replace the T joints. I think they might even come with O rings but might as well get new ones there too. Probable on that 2nd question. Always rejet when going to pods for sure! You're getting so much more oxygen that you were.

Most likely they're not. Chances are the carbs on the 650 are a bit smaller. But I would have to cross reference the two bikes to know for sure. All available on the internet if you wanted to do some snooping :)

Wide open my 80 falls on its face. Other than that it runs ok. No air leaks. Think it's a main jet? Also how do I richen it up since these carbs have the air mixture screw instead of the fuel mixture screw.

falling on its face could be from already being too rich, if it backfires it could be too lean. Not a motorcycle mechanic but general carb knowledge

I need some help man. I bought a 1980 Suzuki gs1000g as a project bike. I've rebuilt carbs and I'm trying to put all of the lines back together my issue is I have 4 ports on the carbs and 3 on the tank. I didn't undo any of the lines so I have no idea what line goes to what port. Any help for this?
@scotthammond5461
@scotthammond5461 2 жыл бұрын
Two of the ports, the ones in the center goes to the petcock itself, ones a vacuum and one is the fuel line. The third nipple on the tank is for overflow from the pump, it along with the two side ports just have hoses aimed at the ground.

hey i'm working on a friends 1980 gs 850. im having such a hard time figuring out the throttle cable to the carbs. they're so loose and i can't get them to tighten up for that snap in the handle. do you have any tips for an adjustment?
@MotoMedic
@MotoMedic 4 жыл бұрын
So there could be a couple of problems. First is that maybe the cables are just too worn out to get adjusted. Second and more likely... They're not the correct cables for that bike. Usually even work throttle cables will work, but if they aren't the right ones you'll fight with them.

@MotoMedic
@MotoMedic 5 жыл бұрын
If I remember right I'm pretty sure you should have the main fuel line and a vacuum line going to the petcock. Vacuum line goes onto the smaller outlet and connects to carbs. The vacuum sucks fuel into the main line when the bike is running.
@garrettpolzin7235

I have as GS 1000 that I need to do this to. I am changing the original exhaust to a 4 to 1 Vance & Hines exhaust and I need to re jet it. What size jets should I use?
@MotoMedic
@MotoMedic 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know off hand what size jets you'll want to use. But what I would recommend is either the Dynotjet stage 1 or stage 3 kit. Depending on whether you're staying with stock airbox or not will determine which stage to get. If you're running pods, you're going to want stage 3. Stock airbox, stage 1 probably will get you done. But make sure you order make and model specific.

@@devindarwin9878 if it's a small circlip it's probably for a new needle if your kit came with one. A really tiny washer, spring, and O-ring are likely for the air mix screw, which is most likely not visible on your carbs unless someone has already done it. They have a small cap that you have to drill out to get to the mix screw. That's what I wasn't able to get in part 2!
