The Reds were on Game of the Week at least 4 weeks in a row in May 1981 -- vs. Houston on May 9, at Pittsburgh on May 16, and vs. LA on May 23 and 30. Each time they were the primary game. They did end 1981 with baseball's best record, but because of the split season imposed after the players' strike, they narrowly missed the postseason altogether.

I'm still mad about that LoL 😂🤣

Yeah. Either MLB thought it'll never happen or if it did, no one would care. But seriously. That's why a full season is the point. There are ups & downs. The best team got penalized for not dominating either half. Made no sense. Should've just followed the NHL model.

@@ckendall67 They had no idea at the end of the 1st half that there was going to be a split season. I'm sure the last few games would have been played differently. I attended a game that was rained out after the Reds had a 6-0 lead that ended up not counting because they didn't play five innings. I'm quite sure that would have been handled differently than it was. Just a botched up season by MLB.

@ 2:20:31 good that Joe acknowledges Harry Dunlop but gets the 1952 info wrong. Harry was in the Pirates minor league system that year in Bristol Va. catching 3 no-hitters in 15 games there, including the 9 inning 27 K Ron Necciai gem - www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Ron_Necciai. and back-to-back no-hitters by righthander Bill Bell - www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Bill_Bell. Harry had 21 seasons as an MLB coach, including 2 tours w/Reds. First with his childhood friend McNamara and later with fellow 50's Pirates catcher farmhand Jack McKeon. Joe was a catcher on that lousy Pirates club in '52 BTW - "Dutch" called a bad game that day, no matter how loud he was.
