Serious question: I was born in Seattle in 1973. Anywhere in this, is there a power line PSA "Don't put yourself on the line?" Sounds like it wasn't specific to Seattle. Maybe, just maybe, in 1982-1984, you remember seeing that commercial? Although, you may be much younger than me, watching a gem throwback broadcast.

Yeah and to hear Joe describe how he would pitch certain hitters during different counts. Insight into the brilliant mind of a catcher.

Ray Charles once told Bob Costas that Vin Scully's style of broadcasting baseball was almost musical. And come to think of it, I kind of get it. Vin always on air, spoke very eloquently and there was a certain class and elegance with the way that he carried and presented himself. And he had that smooth, high tenor, dulcet speaking voice. He didn't really need to scream or raise his voice too much to get his point across or to keep you engaged.

0:00 I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American. I know that people age and/or get sick, but seeing how young, healthy, and clear-speaking Siskel is, is very saddening, because of how much he slowed down at the end, from his illnesses.

Trading Garvey and Cey was a big mistake. Those two still had 3-4 solid years in them as was proven with there time in Chicago and San Diego. As a young Dodger fan at the time I was so bummed they got traded. Brock was no Garvey, and although I liked Marsha he was not as valuable as Cey. Both were long in the tooth, but they still had a lot to offer as the senior ball players on the team along with Russel.

@davidpridham37412 жыл бұрын
Basically, WPTZ was the closest NBC affiliate to the Montreal urban area of over 3 million. For a period of time in 70s WPTZ in tiny Burlington VT was the only/default NBC option for cable TV viewers in Montreal , ottawa and Quebec City. They had a potential Canadian audience of 5 or 6 million. They would air expos over Red Sox games for obvious $ reasons.

1983 was the last season that the old blackout restrictions were in place. Thus, this telecast did not air in Los Angeles. However, due to a technical glitch we saw it just long enough to watch MIKE MARSHALL get hit in the head.

what a shame NBC did indeed lose baseball after 1989..they broke up garagiola and kubek for scully coming on board nationally.. and pedro guerreo had to be one of the worst fielders in history, the dodgers tried hiding him everywhere and he was just so bad
@essentialeugene4 жыл бұрын
David also in 1988 Joe Garagiola could not renew his contract and Tom Seaver took his place. ABC also lost baseball after 1989 as well. I was upset at this as well. However NBC and ABC returned to baseball in 1994 with ``The Baseball Network.'' However it ended after two years. ABC did not renew their baseball contract but NBC stayed on but on a limited basis. The second contract ran from 1996-2000.

If this were a 1957 contest, I can just imagine Vin Scully saying, Good afternoon, everyone! This is Vin Scully, along with Jerry Doggett and Al Helfer, and here we are, at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, about to bring you the Dodgers and the Montreal Expos. Of course, we all know that by the time the Expos came into existence the Dodgers were playing their 12th season in Hollywood.

Growing up on NBC and ABC baseball, it was tough accepting CBS doing the games. Didn’t sound or look right. No disrespect to Jim kaat, Jack Buck, etc.

@@essentialeugene NBC only would do playoff, All Star and World Series games (the latter two in even and odd numbered years respectively, with Fox having them in the other years) from 1996 to 2000 it should be noted. No regular season games were a part of the limited contract.
