G'day. I have tried lots of ways to overcome springs (done lots on earthmoving gear) with some were even stronger than this one would have been and have had the odd one coil inserted into the end of a finger. Pain full. The best way I found to stretch/lengthen a really strong spring: I bend the spring one way (make it U shaped) to open up the gaps between the coils. Slide in several flat washers into the gaps. Bend the spring the opposite direction and slide flat washers into the next lot of gaps one hundred and eighty degrees around. This makes the spring longer as it does not contract as much. Once hooked into place on both sides of the hooks pull out the washers with pliers and the spring will shorten. Great job with the video's

What a beauty! Good luck with the restoration. That was my dream bike that I couldn't afford at the time, ended up on a GS 550.

Some Marine Rust / Corrosion remover jelly will help clean up your brake caliper piston chambers. Just brush the jelly in there, let is sit a while, then rinse and wipe out. Will look like new.

Beautiful bike. Gotta love most all of the bikes of that era. This is a great series.👍👍 Would love to see you rebuild an 84-86 Honda CB750SC Nighthawk S 15:14

Thanks for watching and commenting ! Funny you should say that about the night hawk 750S, I saw one on Tuesday that was for sale, but the guy wanted to much $ for it. Same engine as in my CBX750 that I did last year but I have to split the cases again soon to do the starter and cam chains.

Put the entire wiring harness, connectors, etc into your ultrasonic tank. It will make it look like new, AND soften it up nicely to make it easier to work with.

Sorry, I meant to add the easiest way to bend the spring is to place one hook end in a vice. Place a strong screwdriver in the other end and bend the spring with the screwdriver.

Buddy! I dont know where you are in Canada, I’m in Ontario but I would love to pop by and give you a few pointers. Keep that metal pick away from your calipers get yourself some scotchbrite green, red and brown, and some chop sticks. Use a 1x1” piece of fine grade scotchbrite and work it into the bores and grooves with the chopstick end.

Great progress. If the fork spring is to soft I can recomend a German brand I use that got you covered. They are called Wilbergs and they work perfect on my CB900F. Still got good comfort but they dont bottom out like the stock 40 year old once. I am shure you can find other brands aswell but I can recomend Wilbergs springs 👍

Thanks for the info! I’ll likely leave it stock, it won’t get ridden that much to be honest .

@@true-moto-resto Waiting for next instalment of the cbx750 had just started riding when that was released. It was meant to be an affordable mid to large motorcycle never seemed to catch on shame. Somebody down the road from me had CB900 in silver about that time. Gaps in my knowledge usually due to lack of money (whats new) now I have Italian bikes RST and GT 750 to worry about amoung other things. Your efforts are much apprecited and I am surprised you don't have more subs. Way to avoid issue with fork seals use a piece of thin plastic from milk bottle is an old trick to get them past the rough rust on the top of the fork legs.

@@owen368 this fall I’ll get back to the CBX750. We never got them at all in Canada this one is a JDM import. I’ve used plastic from a windshield washer bottle before on the forks to save the seals, but I find electrical tape much easier if the fork bullets don’t fit. Our milk here comes in bags. LOL
