That brown wire was speaker wire from late 80s from radio shack. I have a roll of it, better then any you can buy today.

Thank you for the video and info! Ended up purchasing same kit for my 86 K5 and installed myself. Used your video for a lot of reference. Everything works except for my wipers and washer fluid motor. Wires and connections appear to be in order. Any thoughts? Also, how’d you modify the harness to work 4x4 cluster indicator and shifter lamp?

I’d start with changing the switch if all your connection are in order. Dont just check for power at the switch, make sure its at least 12 volts. Check your fuses of course. On the 4x4 indicator, i ran a wire from the floor switch to the dakota digital dash. Theres a 4x4 lamp option for those dashes. For the little console light, I taped into the gauge lamps (dash lights). Great questions, Thanks for watching!

The factory harness has a big nasty bunch wires going everywhere on the starter and that dumb block on the firewall. I usually just yank it out and start fresh.

There’s 4 main wires coming to your starter. The big 4 gauge from the positive post on the battery to the big lug, also on the big lug are two 12g red or pink wire, these two feed your fuse box with power, one goes to top of the fuse box one to the bottom. The 4th wire run from you fuse box to the small lug on your solenoid. Its responsible from spending the starter
