As a musician, guitarist, and guitar tech for many artists in the past I can tell you that besides having the largest skull crushing vocals in a very small body Ronnie James Dio was a VERY intelligent, kind, intellectual, mannerly, and morally correct person. He had a thing for picking the best guitarists as far as rock song riffs go. Those riffs that turned into some of the best rock songs ever still give me goosebumps during guitar solo's. I must crank up the car stereo when I hear those songs as I go into a musical goosebump Oblivion. His vocals and lyrics were incredibal. He passed away before meeting again and after my last personal gathering with him, Iron Maiden and Metallica at Merriweather Post Pavilion in my state of Md after taking a few PRS Guitars for a few of the guys to try out. I will never forget how genuine, kind and down to earth he was. Just WOW as a person. No he was NOT satanic as some weirdos would have you believe. Also, if you didn't know that he was much older than most rock musicians I bet most are also unaware that Ronnie was in Do-Wop bands WAY back in early 1960's. Look it up on KZbin/Google and listen to the vocal beast doing some lovey-dovey Do-Wop where he got his start. Amazing!! God Bless the "king of rock and roll" and may his legend never die!!!!!

In the early 1970’s I was a student at Bucknell University, which is located on the banks of the Susquehanna River in central Pennsylvania. The school had a strong Greek system and the students studied hard but enjoyed their weekends. My fraternity would host several big parties each semester featuring live bands. The highlight of each year was House Party Weekend. We would blow our social budget and hire Ronnie James Dio & The Elves from upstate New York to play at that party. Those performances became the stuff of legends. Ronnie James was awesome. He had no reservation playing an ultra high energy show in front of an enthusiastic group of 18-21 year old college students. We had a beer tap in our large party space that opened up to a big patio and he would stick around after his show and have some brew with the Brothers before packing up and driving north up US Route 15 back to New York State. He was a genuinely nice guy who sincerely enjoyed entertaining his audience no matter how small the venue.

Just listened to the studio/official video of this. His voice is actually stronger here, which for live is not typically what you will find! Not sure that he had limits. The power at that pitch is unsurpassed.

My first was the Dream Evil tour in January '88. I'd seen a bunch of concerts in the 4 years before that including Maiden's Powerslave, Priest's Turbo, Triumph's Thunder 7 and a few other AWESOME shows, but seeing Dio on that tour, was a step up from even those! After the giant spider and the dragon fought with lasers ending in the spider's defeat, the crew turned the lights on to see the audiences reaction. We were all MIND BLOWN! Had tickets to see Alice Cooper's 1988 tour to see if it could even top Dio, but a blizzard prevented the tour bus from taking us to London Ontario to see the concert. That REALLY sucked!
@briansauer66955 жыл бұрын
Metal shows in the '80's are something they rarely replicate now as they cost too much. Apparently Dio, rumor has it, spent more money than anyone else on his shows back then. I have yet to see as mind blowing a show since, albeit KISS put on a damn good show on their reunion tour in '96. I think Iron Maiden will put on quite the spectacle this time around in July 2019. Too bad I don't have tickets to that!

From the moment he opens his mouth until the song is done. What a presence. Perfect every single time. DIO was truly the greatest vocals the Rock world has ever seen. RIP.

Never forget listening to the Heaven and Hell album in the early 80,s . Dio did a fantastic job on that album. Neon nights kicked ass with Dio on vocals.Seems like yesterday.
@briansauer66955 жыл бұрын
Yep! Was 13 in 1980 and heard Heaven and Hell not long after in '81 or '82. Then my neighbor heard me listening to H&H shortly after Dio's first solo album came out. He said if you like H&H, you GOTTA listen to this! I was HOOKED from my first listen! Got to see him on the Dream Evil tour and three times after in the 90's and '02 on the Killing The Dragon tours! Dream Evil is, to this day, my FAVORITE concert EVER! And I've been to a lot of concerts in 36 years!
