1984 Tercel SR5 4wd arrives at the house

been searching three years for an early model SR5 trim Tercel 4wd, finally found one that wasn't all the way in Colorado, be prepared for regular uploads again as I do repairs on my dream car, the front suspension is absolutely shot

there is a facebook group for these cars where the marketplace listings get posted when the show up, definetly easier to come by on the west coast than around here, keep looking, its worth the search, almost 5 years ive owned this car and never regretted the purchase

it is, sorry I haven't made any videos lately, ill be driving the 88 camry this winter and im planning some work on it for next spring, need to fix some of the rust that's popping up and ill probably drive it all summer next year

Great and thanks for the quick reply. The reason I was looking at videos of these is an elderly couple has just moved in around the corner and they have a very good condition one sitting on the driveway that doesn't seem to get used. I'm tempted to ask them if they want to sell but I really don't want to buy a money pit. That said I love these things. The utaliterian lines are so refreshing in todays jelly-mould designs.

there isn't much that can go wrong with them honestly, its a carbureted 1.5L SOHC engine with a manual trans, anything that isn't mechanically controlled is vaccum controlled, maybe if you have no idea how a carb works than it will be a learning experience, but I mean just to say how stupidly simple they are, one time I put on the jump box backwards on the battery, and one 60 amp fuse later I was going down the road again, on a modern car that's a couple thousand dollar mistake, that and there is a decent community for these cars on Tercel4wd.com and nearly any problem these cars can have has been solved once or twice there. the only thing to worry about is the driveline, the trans and the 4wd system because all of it is proprietary and extremely hard to find spares, if the trans blows up in one of these its pretty much a write off unless you want to swap to a fwd only trans which are pretty easy to find still

I love that car! What is the top speed it says you can do in 4WD? Can it be used all the time like an AWD car?

you can use 4wd at any speed as long as the conditions allow for a bit of slip in the wheels, like dirt, very heavy rain or piled snow, cant be used on dry roads at all because the 4wd system simply locks the axles together at one speed, If the wheels cant slip it causes a lot of strain on the system, ive gone 60 in it in 4wd before on a really snowy night, ive never felt safer during a massive snowstorm before
