I just picked up another 86 350x, all original low hour barn find I bought from the original owner last Sunday! I had it running within a couple hours after getting it home and it runs like new, always fires right up on the 1st or 2nd kick and does not smoke at all. The engine is stupid quiet and feels just as fresh as the new old stock 86 350x engine I picked up and installed in my other 86 build I've been working on. The barn find started on the first kick after sitting for years so there is nothing like a good Honda from the 80's! I couldn't believe it when it fired right up on the first try! These 350x's are excellent machines and are worth picking up and restoring all day long! I had two 350x's about 12-13 years ago that I eventually sold because racing 450cc ATV mx was more important at the time, I regretting selling them from day one and couldn't be happier to finally own two of them again. These machines are definitely something special that we will never see mass produced again by Honda. If you have a chance to pick one up I would do it in a heartbeat! Only people who have ridden these machines will know what I'm talking about and is something you have to experience yourself to really appreciate. LONG LIVE THE ATC!

When the snow closed schools and roads for regular traffic the X was uncatchable for the local police. Three wheelers were not dangerous if you knew how to handle them, some models with no or little suspension had too much engine for the design. Three wheelers needed a lot of body english to get them to perform well, nothing powerslides as well as a three wheeler and you can powerslide around every corner keeping your speed up.

What I liked about the 3 wheeler was you could squeeze in between trees that no quad could, You could accelerate quicker and power sliding was so easy. You had to move around quickly to keep the vehicle stable, lean over the front bars when climbing and stay on the inside and low when cornering hard.

I have been paralyzed for 20 years from a crash on a 1985 Honda 200X and when people hear that the first thing they say it is "OMG... Those 3 wheelers were so dangerous!" Every time I hear someone say that I correct them, they are only dangerous if you don't know how to ride them! I grew up riding them, started on a Honda 110 that was my uncle's. Later my mom bought a brand new Honda 200S. Later my brother bought a brand new Honda 200X and later a new 250R. My uncle also had a couple Honda 200Xs, a Honda 200S and a Honda 250R. One of his 200Xs became mine later and I also had one of these 1985 350Xs for a few years. All of them were a blast and if I wasn't quadriplegic I would get back on one right now without hesitation!
@MikeHuntEsq4 жыл бұрын
@@krisjato No offense, but this comment reads like a textbook example of cognitive dissonance. You simultaneously claim that 1) 3-wheelers are only dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, 2) you yourself have a lot of experience riding 3-wheelers, and 3) you yourself were paralyzed while riding a 3-wheeler. How do points #2 and #3 taken together not contradict point #1? Did your crash really have nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that the vehicle was a 3-wheeler? Would it have happened exactly as it did no matter what you were riding?

Had to watch my dream 3 wheeler that I have never gotten to ride. It’s amazing these in fairly good condition are going for $4000. I could see that price for a museum quality. I hate to admit it but if I had the money I would buy a $4000 three wheeler over a quad. Especially one that has a top end of about 70 mph. I was riding my 110 from the river to the store for a drink and passed a couple boys about 12 years old . Their reaction to a motorized tricycle was priceless. I had to stop and let them check it out. They said they had never seen a three wheeler and were in awe. I guess there are only a few of us that are causing the 3 wheeler prices to get stupid high. Nostalgia doesn’t have a price limit it seems.

I got an ATC 110 in 1983 when I was 12. I loved that bike, I wore it out. raced it on a local flat track and even won a few trophies. Has flat track tires and wheel spacers. I rode like a maniac and it really teaches a person to learn to ride by the seat of their pants. Now I'm older and have 2 Polaris sport mans and ride trails for fun but how awesome would it be to have the ATC today produced with a 500 plus cc engine with all the suspension and light parts tech stuff we have these days. I've been riding 3 since I was 12yrs old (I'm 47 now). My first ATC was a 1983 185s. One day my dad up and sold all our ATCs without notice. I was devastated. When I was 18yrs old I wanted a 200X but I couldn't find one. Then I saw my first 350X. I was in total awe (even though the bike was a POS) and I bought it on site without test riding it. A couple days later I took it for a test ride. I ripped down the trail, running through all the gears. I ran out of trail and slammed on the brakes. I looked back at my buddies with the biggest shit ass grin on my face. I"ve been hooked since. 19yrs old I found a mint 1985 350X and bought it for $1100. I still have it and it's still in really good condition. 1+2=ME!

I just purchased an 85 350x, unfortunately, the original engine was removed by the previous owner as well as all the wire harnesses. It has the factory steel tank with no damage, all the plastic, dual headlight assembly and the original seat that cleaned up nice, white letters intact, just no engine, electronics and wire harnesses. I figured the guy's price of $200 was well worth it since I see bare 350x frames going for $400 and higher. So, my challenge has begun but know one day it'll be ready to rip around on. I do miss the five 250r trikes I once owned. 3 were air cooled 1982, 83 and 84. The other 2 trikes were both water cooled 85's and a lot of fast fun winding them out on the sand flats and climbing the sand dunes and bowls up and down the Oregon coastline.

ATVonDemand That would be great. I bought the 250 Quadracer, an ‘86 and a few months later, one of buddies had an ‘87. With water cooled 2 stroke engines, they were so fast and snappy, compared to our Sport style 3 wheelers. He and I also had joint ownership in a 230 Quadsport and a 250 Honda Odessa. The other guys kept there 3 wheels for a while longer. Fortunately, my buddy’s family owned a construction company and several acres of land, around their yard (which was in town and only a few miles from our apartments). It had a rock bottom creek that zigzagging thru the property and we used their equipment to build jumps, whoops, etc. to create multiple different tracks. Man those were some good times; we road every weekend. Then, on Christmas Eve 1989 or 90, some assholes drove a big truck thru their front gate and stole everything. The bikes, multiple helmets, riding boots and gear, our gas powered air compressor and a bunch of rear tire sets. That was the end of an era for us. My buddy and I eventually bought new Yamaha Warriors 350s, which were also a blast to ride, but the other guys chose to hang it up...

The frames are inherently weak because of the smaller tubing for sure so I would recommend a gusset kit to anyone who buys an 85-86 350x and actually plans on riding it as one of the first upgrades few upgrades. If your going to putt around a field then obviously a gusset kit isn’t going to be as much of a priority. Can’t wait to receive the gussets and just a few other odds and ends so I can really get moving on my 350x project. Been working on rebuilding the suspension and replacing every wear item/bearing/bushing on the trike in the meantime. I wish I would have been able to own one of these brand new from the Honda dealer and definitely can only imagine how cool that would of been! I love these old Hondas and enjoy doing all the work to mine myself from builds to just maintenance. I have 4 operational trikes at the moment and 2 projects I have waiting in the queue to be built. Both projects are first gen 200x’s, I plan on an mX first gen 200x build and the other I would like to restore to all 1983 OEM or as close as I can get like new in memory of my father who recently passed away. I have an 86 ATC200x that I built already to race MX in Breezewood, Pa, and I’m currently building my 350x to take with and hopefully race in two classes next year. I’m probably going to tear it back apart some day this week and get the frame ready to weld in the gussets when they come. I really enjoy watching your videos when Im not riding or working on a three wheeler lol!

Looks like a beast! I've considered buying one of these and doing a missile engineering kit on the back which is basically a new swing arm, turning it from 3 wheels to two. Not sure if you've heard of the thing but they look amazing

We've seen one of those in a few videos on KZbin. At a time when fat tire two-wheelers were hot, that would have been a fast one. Post a video if you build or buy one.

I had a 200x. It was the most fun I ever had as a kid. Rode that thing until it wouldn't run anymore, and then I stole my brother's 200x which he never rode. Lol

That brings back some memories ;) great machine. Wish I never sold mine... for peanuts. They kind of down played the 250r.. but to be fair my friends 250r ate my 350x for lunch. It was not even close like this video leads you to believe.

We will be doing a vintage throwback test of the ATC250R as well. Its already been shot, with the exception of a couple of interviews. Expect the ATC250R later this winter. Also, check our website and channel for our 350X Vintage Motocross Project. We'll be releasing a project 250R nearly identical to the 350X this winter as well.
