When ESPN had the real sh*t on TV! Loved watching this and Monster Trucks back in early '90s.

Grew up on the Island. Our family's 84 Buick station wagon was used a derby at this place in 1999 when it finally was on its last legs. Classic stuff. Lot of good times in Riverhead when I was a little kid.

The car with the Smurf on it is my uncle Tommy wow he just stumbled upon this video and told me about it.1985 I was only 6 years old. On my mother's side of the family always had a thing for cars, stock cars, racing, figure eights, demo anything you can think of. There is a video clip somewhere from the Wide World of Sports and my grandma and she was with her best friend walking off the track. And my grandmother used to race too I guess pretty neat if you ask me just wish I could have known all this before she passed away back in 2006.

Do you have many DD tracks in BC
@crazykellywfo42405 жыл бұрын
@@Mr-millen Glad you asked. Yes we have many dirt tracks in Canada, I've personally raced on an asphalt track, I raced a 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, #54. The machine used to be loud and fast and frightening. It was marine blue, and had a very tired motor, but that didn't stop me from racing and racing hard. I finally called it quits when I ran out of cash, and with no sponsor I had to quit. That and the car finally SCARED ME.To this day I'm convinced the car was haunted, since I felt a presence in the car and literally was pushed out of it, I felt a pair of arms throw me out, I landed on a dirt mound, seriously spooked. Racing is a serious hobby, it's fun and scary at the same time, and you take you're life in you're hands every time you climb in.

CRAZY KELLY WFO I’ve been racing since 1984 but me and my brothers only do pre 75 meetings now as we’ve still got an abundance of Jaguars / rover p5 and Austin Westminster and we are competing at hednesford raceway in 3 weeks time which is called the veterans meeting and runs on tarmac and has banked bends and as you probably know we race around the circuit to qualify for the final and the last race of the day is the demolition derby

I think this was one of few times (maybe the only time?) between 1961 and the mid 1990's that the World Demolition Derby Championship wasn't on "ABC's Wide World Of Sports". But I think ESPN was a corporate sister to ABC even back then, so that might have been a factor.
