1986 XR250R Problem (What's Wrong?)

Okay so here I have a 1986 XR250R frame with a 1984 XR250R engine in it. So far I have had to tear down the engine and found out that a bearing Stay bolt had backed out and came into contract with the clutch basket and then it jammed in between the Primary Drive gear and the Oil Pump gear and caused the engine to "Lock UP" and then I discovered that the timing chain guides were shot.... Then I discoverd that the piston rings were wasted. Check out my channel for the videos of thisXR250R Engine Rebiuld.

Why do so many people think these were spray painted red? They were red from the factory.

Yaw Pancakes That was my first initial thought until I did more research on it. still not sure what Honda was thinking to paint them red.

Dude that bolt broke off it wasn’t left loose. It seems like you have an issue with whoever put it together. Either way..good luck with that

The bolt was left loose, which in turn caused it to back off and break off. The guy who worked on this before it Nitrous for fuckin shit up. Trust me I have seen millions of engines half assed and put together like this. Yes I have a problem with people who don't know what the fuck they're doing and then causes other people problems and the next guys who have to work on it more trouble then necessary. Yeah good luck with that buddy. You're comment is just out of your own cobbling shit together and fucking shit up and basically being called out on your own rigging. 👍🏻

Do you have a spare camshaft. I also have a xr250 and my camshaft broke because the guy that rebuilt it didnt tighten bolts all the way

@@trxtech3010 my original camshaft doesnt have those threads in the middle. Thank you so much for looking tho. I love your xr250. If hard having a old bike. The parts are kinda hard to find

@@matthewwebb4662 It will still work. That cam fits more then 1 Model of the XR250R, all those splines are for is some other models of the XR250 that came with a Mechanical Tachometer on them.

Hey I have a 84 xr200 the engine looks the exact same as yours expect black. I am trying to get the cam chain sprocket back on the cam. Right know the tensioner has the square piece sticking up and the wedge is down. is that the way it is suppose to be? Any tips on how to get the sprocket back on?

So, the square peice that is to the tensioner should be pointed down.

I know this comment is a year old but just a couple days ago I got my 84 xr200 running after replacing valve guides, new valves, and a new camshaft… pulling up on the square piece sticking up releases most of the tension of the chain and you should be able to wiggle the camshaft through. I hold piece up with pliers (the original shop manual actually describes this as the official method believe it or not) and then use Vice grips to hold it up to make it a one person job. After that you can place the cam gear on the chain and hold it up with enough room to shove the camshaft through that same side, rotating to pass the cam lobes through the gap in the center of the gear one at a time. The Vice grips will put marks on the square bit but it’s not critical it’s just a access point to the spring assembly below.
