Over three videos, I remove the whole front end off of a 1987 Kawasaki Concours and refresh all the components.

This is great to find. I’m picking up an ‘86 (it’s being given to me) and it needs some minor work. So this is good stuff.

Great video, I've been customizing/restoring an 86, and I love to watch video of others work on them. I lightened mine alot by getting rid of the front fairing, bags and various brackets.

Thanks for the comment. The C10 is a great bike to work on. Friendly to the shade tree mechanic. Bullet proof engine and driveline. I'm glad you're enjoying yours.

Thanks for this video. I'm considering at 94 newer 1000, and expect I'll need to clean the carburetor set. Glad to see how easy it is to remove the lower panels. Thanks again.

Very informative video for us with Concours 1986-2006 {only a few changes from the 1986-1994 TO the > 1995 > 2006 >> Front Wheel rim size, fairing pockets, forks, Front brake calibers I believe} My only problem, and I apologize in advance, but; When you were moving the camera around to show certain areas, you never stopped moving, and that defeats the entire purpose of using the camera, what we see becomes a blur. Almost got a little sea sick. When the camera was still, GREAT. Sorry to be blunt, but that movement hurt. The VIDEO was EXCELLENT as far as pulling the Front Fairing and associated pieces off, well done. The side fairing pieces and the fairing pockets I've done, but not the FRONT section. Not quite brave enough to pull the entire front section. What can I say, SUPER job on 98% and I really thank you for that.

I agree my video stabilization on my earlier videos have a lot to be desired. I have greatly improved that on the later vids. Thanks for the comment.

@@SCWMoto I've been going through your videos on the Connie (I'm installing a Garmin GPS next week once it arrives. I haven't been riding much at all in the last 3 - 4 years (my wife's health wasn't good and she didn't like me being gone and worried bout me getting into an accident... She has since passed away, and I've started to try riding again more, and I'm really rusty and out of practice) I'm enjoying your videos really, they bring back a lot of memories of some of my work on my Connie. I still have yet to pull the water pump and redo it's oil seal. No looking forward to pulling any fairings (hate that) and draining cooling fluid, and draining good oil (mobil 1) . I also have to change one radiator hose I couldn't get it done 3 years when I changed all the others. For me the water pump seal R&R seems like a big job. It's just I don't want to go on any long trips before I do this...

@@strshooter7399 Sorry for your loss. The C10 is a fun bike to work on.it isnt overly complicated and responds well to taking your time. I have done the water pump on the bike. Not one of the most fun projects but pretty straight forward. Just drain the oil. I find If you haven't been riding it, you don't feel as rushed to repair it to get back on it that's why i do all my repairs over the winter (captive audiance) lol. I'm glad you are enjoying my vids and are getting something from them. That was my hopes on creating them. I was learning the whole You Tube and filming on the fly. Take care and enjoy the connie. I have several newer faster and modern bikes and still ride the crap out of the C10.

I dont know if you still monitor this page but I am considering buying a 2002 ZG1000 Concours with 54k on it. The guy says it runs great and its had 3+ owners. He wants 3800 for it, started out at 4500. I have been reading and watching videos about testing compression and tearing down carburetors and adjusting valves and cam chains and such. I am sure I am less experienced than you. In 1995 I had a 1982 1000 CSR that I loved and stupidly sold. It wasnt all decked out with a fairing and had only a luggage rack and back rest on the rack. Im a little afraid of the miles and how much trouble it would be to take off the fairings to get to things like the front end and carburetors and such. Im no young guy anymore and I am about to watch your video. I was considering an 1981 Honda CB 750F as a project bike to paint and fix up and make my own but i was slow getting the bucks together, $1000 for 19k miles which I thought was pretty good, and the guy sold it. So anyway, this Concours came along and I am wondering if you think it might be a decent bike for me. New tires last year, oil change at the end of season and battery has been maintained. Thank you. Just finished it. Yes, that was very helpful. I will move on to Video #2. Thank you!

Hello, yes I do still monitor the comments here. All I can offer you would be personal opinion for my experience with the concourse. I’ve owned several over the years. I believe the engine on those bikes are fantastic. They can easily go high mileage providing they’re not abused. Because it’s a touring type motorcycle the chances of abuse are lower than with other models. But you can still have an neglected maintenanced bike. The particular bike that I’m working on in this video has around the same amount of miles and runs just fine. what’s particularly outstanding in my opinion on these engines, is the valve adjustment sequence where it’s not a shim bucket but a full adjustable set screw and if that maintenance is kept up the bike should run literally forever a couple of things that I found to keep an eye on is the water pump, which not in itself is a totally easy fix but it’s not a difficult either and it’s a cheap fix, clutch springs can be another. I have since sold my concourse and I’m not gonna lie I do have regrets as I’ve had for the others that I sold throughout the years, but I would never speak bad about the bike because I really enjoyed it while I had it. They are a little top-heavy due to the big gas tank, and pretty fragile if you drop them but once you get used to that they will give you miles of smiles. Enjoy riding my friend.

Half Fast fork brace ???? That would be what it is WITHOUT the fork brace.......it does work very well to keep the forks from shifting under heavy turn down forces. Something ALL of them found out with smaller diameter fork tubes. Engineers, what will they think of next. Personally I find it easier to remove the wheel first, which is a must anyway, to rebuild the forks or change the tire.......we each have our ways don't we.

Like the Guy from the movie, The Office, that can't find his stapler, "Have you seen my 10mm socket", lol, I have 3-4 12mm sockers, but it's always a struggle to find the elusive 10mm, hehe.

Can i ask you what is the hose for thats under the tank......is it just a vent tube or does it connect to something....also what color is that bike
@SCWMoto
@SCWMoto 3 ай бұрын
Yes, that hose is a breather. If I remember correctly, It just basically gets routed behind the airbox and drops down next to the battery overflow hose. I believe the color for the 1987 was candy wine red.

That parts bike lived a hard life. Most of the plastics were fastened using zip ties and wood screws 😳 they were trashed as i took the bike apart.

Can u tell me what to remove to get at the air filter please? 02 concours...
@SCWMoto
@SCWMoto 4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they are all the same. Seat, Left side case. Behind the side case you will see the Air box. There is a single philips head screw. That will open the air box. The filter is wedged in there with a ramp wedge, just pull it out and the filter comes right out.
