I watched this back in November 1987 and recorded the Sunday Live stages and the daily rally reports like you see here on VHS. I still have the tapes in the loft somewhere. I remember doing a lesson at school and I forced my classmates to watch it and then a quiz after wards

Equally, how was such a talented driver as Dave Metcalfe fooling about in a fwd Astra/Kadett . He should of been in a Delta, a sorely lost talent.

@@simonrook5743 Yeah, I get that there IS a gap, but it's tiny, and half covered by the Windscreen wipers too. And he wasn't exactly hanging around... Guess it goes to show how much they drive from the co-driver / pace notes. But it's still frankly amazing!

Interesting to note that the issues seemed only to affect the UK prepared Vauxhall Astras; far be it from me to suggest the, nominally identical, German-built Opel Kadett s were built to a higher standard...

@@royale4318 As I understand it the UK cars had their air intakes too low and the engines ingested water. They expected six inches of water and found twelve.
