Even good Michigan State teams in 80s had trouble winning all their non conference games. And Florida State sure was good by end of the 80s

They sure were good by the end of the 70s! 11-0 in 79 and 10-1 in 80 ranked #2 going into the orange bowl. But I understand what you mean. They were a powerhouse by the late 80s. Both my grandparents worked at FSU in the 80s. My grandmother in the administration office. And my pop pop at the stadium. Went to all the home games for free from 87-93. And watched right from the field with the security staff who my pop pop worked with! Got a ball with the entire 93 teams signature! RIP to both.

True but one of them (MSU lineman Tony Mandarich) was a huge bust. Andre Rison I believe was another first round pick, drafted by the Colts then traded to the Falcons. I thought he was the best WR in college football at the time and had a good if not great NFL career.

I'm from the State of Michigan. But watching MSU get spanked is PRICELESS, only to watching Michigan stomp them 49-0.
