Bowden built FSU by playing anybody anywhere in the 70s/80s. Played at LSU 5 straight years early on. Auburn, Nebraska, Ohio st, Mich, Clemson, Syracuse, ND,ect. While playing Miami and Florida annually!

A forgotten rivalry. These 2 teams played 8 times between 1980-93. From 80-86, FSU went to Nebraska 4x and split 2-2. From 87-93, the two teams met in a New Year's Day Bowl 4x, and FSU won ALL 4 games. FSU owns Nebraska. In all 8 games, BOTH teams were ranked. In most of those games, one or both teams had a REALISTIC chance to win a National Championship. Only FSU's Orange Bowl win in 93 resulted in a title. After the 1993 season, FSU and Nebraska never squared off again.

And Ain't That A Shame! What a great rivalry between two of the finest coaches (and men) of the last century! They had great respect for each other and the way they ran their respective programs......unlike their respective rivals, OU and UF!

Yup. Tommy Frazier only lost 3 games in 4 years 2 were to fsu. We almost got a fsu/neb title game in 96 and 97. But Texas upset Neb in 96 and Florida beat fsu in 97. Or they would've played for the natty in the orange bowl both years.

The 1993 title game IMHO was marred by some very "questionable" officiating during some key plays that had a huge impact on a very close game. Both teams played very hard, but I feel that the Seminoles got some very lucky officiating breaks.

Yep, I remember watching this one from row 94 in the SE end zone. Hot, sweaty, and disappointed.

The official temperature was 96. It was so much hotter in the stadium. It was the worst Husker game condition I ever attended. Heat.
