1989 Box Chevy Build Ep.53 First Start Attempt!! Didn't Go As I Planned (SOMETHING IS WRONG!)

KZbin!!!! In this episode of the Box Chevy Build I attempted to do a first start and I ran into problem after problem, got those issues fixed and then I tried to start it for the first time and I didn't like the way it sound. So now it's back to the drawing board. I did a live stream and I got a lot of feedback so hopefully by next episode I'll have it figured out and we can do a successful first start!!!

Start with the basics, oil pressure, spark fuel. Wait for the day light 💡

Turn the engine by hand, if its binding you may need to pull a head and check your valves and piston clearance.

Recheck your wiring on the ecm and your starter needs to be taken out and put back in. It’s sounding like that because it’s not fully seated correctly.

Lil mechanic tip.. Use a lil petroleum jelly or some kind of lubricant on the injector rubber rings for a easier install 👍🏽👍🏽

ICT Oil pressure pressure relocation adapter mine was leaking too, you can either Teflon tape the threads or permatex thread locker. It worked for me, not leaks after

Make sure you make good body grounds at the battery as well. The ground going to the frame is a good start but if you’ve got other circuits grounded through the body then you need good body grounds too. Ground the engine block to the chassis, and also ground the engine block to the firewall or body of the car as well. Same with the battery in the back.

Push in the peddle while turning it over for 1st start. Gets air out if system n will never have to be fired up like that again

Maybe use a noid light to check for injector pulse and spark tester to check for spark to see if your getting output signal from holly. Good luck brother

If you’re concerned about something not being right in the motor, you could pull all the the spark plugs and roll the motor over by hand and make sure nothing is binding or making noise. Also never hurts to pull the valve covers a well while checking it all out. I know you put a different cam and lifters in there. Are the pushrods the correct length? If all is good, then do a compression test.

Hey unplug the wire to brake switch. With the Holley setup you won’t be able to do a burn out. Had to learn the hard way. Holley said you can put a switch on it but just unplug it.

I saw a vid a guy posted about ruining his engune trying to set up his holley. He was 1st starting and had some leaks. Everytime he turned the key it primed the fuel pump but never fired. He called it somthin...vaporlock maybe but not 100% if thats what he called it. Good luck bro i love the vids

Sounded like she was tight n needed fuel. Throttle body sounded better while open a little while turning it over. Once started then back off throttle. Gotta get throttle idle figured out after its started sounds wayyyy closed
