I had a 1991 Camry.. Same body style, engine and everything. I had it for MANY years. Sold it with 289,000 miles on it, didnt burn oil, no oil leaks, and ran like a million dollars!!!! And i can completely relate with your review. The car was just absolutely SOLID and rode like a million bucks!

Fighting rust on my 1991. I'm restoring it, replaced rack and pinion, fuel lines, break lines, master cylinder, fuel tank inlet pipe, power steering pump. I refuse to let this car go. 133,000 ish miles and I'm keeping it forever. Plan on doing something similar to Ronald finger with his ferio. Biggest thing I can say is to stop rust when you can, especially in the rust belt.

Toyota engineered this platform incredibly well. How about yanking out the back seat for that fuel pump access, eh!? They're not bad to work on at all, once you reverse engineer them the first time and learn why they did it that way. Lol Mid restoration on my 89'LE family heritage car. Has been in the family since 91'. I can say for certain that the exhaust system was easily prone to rust out. I corrected and repaired mine but it's been done multiple times over the life of the car...new mufflers, pipe. (I happen to have its provenance back to 91') Good luck in your fight against the scourge that is rust.

Man, I remember my first paid job when I was 16 in 2006, working at a Toyota dealership as a detailer and lot boy. We always had a few of these older Camrys come in and even back then almost 20 years ago, they were coveted! Such gems. Good video.

I had an 88 Camry I bought for 400 dollars in 2012 I drove that thing everywhere. Drove it from Alberta to The Yukon and into Alaska and back, hit a deer with it but it never quit. It had its quirks. The best way I can describe that car to people is by saying "it had so much heart". What got it in the end was the rust.. god I miss that car. Thanks for doing this review and big shout out to the owner of this beauty.

I too had an '88 Camry 6cylinder Limited edition that was bulletproof! That engine was the one used for Toyota's 1st Lexus, so I basically had a Lexus engine on a Camry. Traveled cross country & back many times. The tranny finally quit at 250,000 miles & no rebuilt stuck, so had to sell. Everywhere I went in this car folks wanted to talk about it 😅 I was surprised to learn in 2008 that it was the 3rd most stolen car in America! I miss my girl every day!

Neighbor had a red 89' Camry with the V6 and my family had a 90' Accord Coupe. In the 90's automakers didn't have infotainment and technology to focus on, so they used their time, energy, and money on the small details. Details that you will never find in a modern car.

My 1989 Camry wagon was and is my first car, reached 300,000 a while back. It's been terribly abused but has never left me stranded. The automatic seat belts and air conditioner still work, but the fuel gauge and the gear selector lights (pointless) haven't worked as long as my family has had it. Absolutely incredible car, and I'd love to have one as faultless as the one featured here.

My first car. My grandma bought it brand new in 89 and I was the last person to own it in my family in 2005. That car gave no one any grief. In the 18 collective years my family owned it we only ever did oil changes and basic maintenance/tune ups, 1 cv shaft and a timing belt. Donated it in 2007 w/156k miles on it and in perfectly running condition.

Had an '87 Camry, blue. Very good car most of the time. Interior/exterior held up very well. Big trunk, got 35MPG on the highway. Major mechanical issues included the head gasket failed, and eventually the car would not start which couldn't be fixed. Still went 200,000 miles.

Yooooo this generation Camry was my dad's first car in this exact exterior & interior color. Sadly he gave it up when the underbody rusted out from over a decade of chicago winters. Man my grandma had an 87 Toyota Camry LE until about 2000. She bought it brand new and put well over 200,000 miles on it. She traded it in for a 99 Honda CRV because she needed more space and now she has a 99 Lexus RX300. That Camry was so reliable growing up I don’t ever remember it being broke! We use to always take it to the drive in and family trips. Good times!

I still have my 89’ Camry and it’s got 254,000 on it! Due to my shaky exhaust, my dash DOES vibrate a bit but other than that, it’s a very comfortable, very smooth, and very enjoyable ride. I did however, put a cold-air intake on it to give it a little more pep. I mean, after 32 years, the 115hp engine needed some help lol. But nonetheless, it’s my favorite car ever and I should mention that repairs on this thing are a cinch! Easiest car I’ve ever worked on and I don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon! 😁

My neighbour had one here in Australia, it was a 1988 Camry Executive, a base model spec with standard power steering and auto transmission added. It's only option was airconditioning. It did 12 years of sterling service before it was traded. It was solid and well made. They built to a high standard at Toyota's Port Melbourne plant in Australia.

Hey Zack, The reason I watched your video today is because I found this exact year and color Camry at a local dealership in Ohio where I live. It's a 1989 same color red as your friend Adam's car and it is in immaculate shape with only 45,000 miles on it. They want 8,900 for it which I'm not going to pay but I'll see how low I can go. I am in love with this era of cars because I was a teenager when these came out and they are so fun to drive and are literally so dependent and the one I found today was made in Japan, because it has the J at the beginning of the VIN so you know it was well built in 1989. It was a one owner vehicle and I'm telling you the car is so clean, no rust, the interior is like it came out of the showroom and it was garaged it's whole life. The paint job, headlights, tail lights, are immaculate. I'm not going to sleep well tonight thinking about if I should get it or not. I love the 80's cars so much. If you're interested in buying it, message me back and I'll let you know what dealership it's at. See ya.........nice review!!

I have the same model shown in the video. It's also in pristine condition. I'm the 2nd owner. I bought it 20 years ago from a man who never put anything in the trunk. The carpet there is like new so I covered it with a sheet of vinyl to keep it that way. In 20 years I've never re-charged the air conditioner but it still blows out cold air. The 1989 Camry is truly a remarkable vehicle.

I drove a rental 1989 Camry base model that had been abused. I was working in a mountainous area and I recall the car zooming up to the summits effortlessly with a very basic instrument cluster. The fuel gauge never seemed to move and the very basic seats were very comfortable. I’m glad I had full insurance as an on coming car sprayed small pea sized rocks all over the front and broke the windshield and headlight. My only regret is that I didn’t buy one when I got back home.

Yes sir. This was my grandparents' daily driver when I was a kid - their garage queen was a 1990 Buick LeSabre (which I ended up acquiring and still drive to this day). The car was immaculate, much like this example. Everything was exactly the same except for the interior, which was cloth gray with blue accents. I never forgot the automatic seatbelts and the sound of them whizzing up and over my grandfather's head every time he picked me up from school. He used to brag about how little he had in the car in terms of maintenance. Eventually, the Camry developed a small oil leak in 2007, and, for some odd reason, he decided to buy a brand new Camry and sold this one to his mechanic. Still miss that car.

Very interesting video. Thanks for posting! We have a 1990 Camry with 226k miles which we have owned for 20 years. We have driven it all over the western US on camping trips with a car top carrier and towing a utility trailer designed to be towed by a motorcycle, all the time getting 32 mpg! It has a manual tranny, manual windows, 4-cylinder engine, and everything original. It has had a fair number of repairs over the years, but I can live with the average of $110/month in repairs we have had. We also have an '86 Camry which is the same way: Solid, dependable, well-designed, and well-built. These cars are keepers!

10 years ago I bought my first car, a 1991 Toyota Camry, 100000km and not looked after very well. To this day it is still my main ride, and even with my own lacklustre care it’s still going strong, that is really a testament to the solid design and manufacturing of this vehicle. It should also be noted you are driving the Executive class (or some name like that I don’t quite remember) and a beauty of a one at that. Quite the rare experience there my friend and I am jealous! The differences off the bat are: - No electric seat belts - An analogue clock - Less pretty dash - Less fancy seats, front and back - No power mode - No cruise control, although mine does have one on the steering column It’s also a treat to see one in that gorgeous red colour, because in Aus I have only seen white ones so far!

Hello Zach, really enjoyed your review of the Camry, amazing condition!! I own a 1987 Camry wagon with 385 000 kms on it, the car is amazing, my wife's grandmother gave it to us in 1996, she lived in Ontario and drove to Florida every year, so we flew down stayed the week and then drove too Texas and back to Ontario it had only 40 000kms back then. The car has almost no rust except a little bit around the rear fenders that's it! Underneath no rust at all, I always got it sprayed every year with Krown Rust control. Inside it is like new, the dash is in mint condition as well, manual windows and locks, only lap belt in the rear. but tons of space wide enough to put multiple sheets of plywood straight in. . IN 2019 I got classic car insurance for it, I only drive the Camry for my weekly cruise! Always kept in the garage and polished up! I get a lot of people looking and giving me the thumbs up when they see the car. Great car, very little maintenance over the years, has a small oil leak from the head gasket but that's it, She feels like part of the family!

I own a 1992 Toyota Camry Olympic Spirit. It rolled off the assembly line in May of 1992, and was purchased by my grandfather in May of 1994, after being used for 2 years by the dealership as a demonstrator model. It still has the original Owners Manual, contract of sale, and Warranty and Service book which ends at 200,000 kilometers; a milestone which it passed in 2009. It currently has 253,711km on the clock. I'm going to keep it as long as I can, and hope one day to restore it to how it would've been when my grandfather drove it off the lot in May 1994.

My grandma gave me a 1987 Camry as a first car, it had been motor swapped by her and for she just put in any engine that would fit. Turns out it had a 1995 Japanese 3sge swapped into it and it made 178 hp. That thing ripped, I plan to swap in an all-trac drivetrain and put in a Caldina motor when the 3sge finally breaks (which will most definetly never happen).

Same, I have optional features that do not seem to be in every 89 Camry DX sedan and it is listed as a 90 model and it doesn't exist with the original grill in the 90s it's an 89 grill if researched this car is very complicated and has many models

I. Love. This. Car. Love love love. I bought mine, same 89 but wagon with 5-speed manual, so my cluster is different. I'm in Alaska, it's not All-trac but very rarely do I have a problem. Mine is almost at 300,000 miles. I've owned a lot of cars over the years, and this is by far my favorite. Rebuilds coming soon.

Owned the same car, color and trim. Loved it to death. Never broke down on me. Ended up recycling it when rust took completely over.

@Shooting Cars Zack you would sure love my Camry. It’s a 1986 2 tone blue (one year option) Liftback model with 5 speed manual, dark blue velour interior. Rare package. I bought it off the original family 5 months ago, their uncle who owned it new until 2020 (34 years), always kept it under the carport at their house, and it was LUCKY to even get driven out once a week. Every time he arrived home with it after it rained, he would wipe the rain off. He even waxed it every year. It was a Vancouver BC car for 36 years until this January. It still has the original chrome dealer badge on the hatch, and EVERYTHING except the horn is stock. The horn is the ONLY aftermarket thing. I take it to car shows and everybody always looks at it amazed. It’s the last year of the 1st gen Camry. It has 187,000 original kilometres (116,000 miles), still smells new and distinctive inside, and the only rust spot it has is a coin-sized bubble behind the passenger rear door. If I lived closer to you, I’m in British Columbia, I would absolutely love having you review it. You earned a 15 year old car enthusiast subscriber. Your awsome Zack!👍

I recently inherited a 1989 Camry base model 5 speed that my great grandpa bought new, it has 143k miles and the only problems that it has are clear coat and some rust issues at the trunk seal from it sitting for a long time and not getting the leaves cleared out of there. I turned 16 recently and it was one of the gifts I received from my grandparents that have had it since my great grandpa passed and I also got a project 1996 Jeep Cherokee that was pulled apart because of a motor rebuild. So far I’ve driven the Camry a few times and all I can say about the driving of it is that it has the suspension of a boat, I’m used to driving my moms Volvo that has coil overs on it so im just not used to comfy suspension yet. The Jeep is still apart but it’s getting closer to running I’m just down to ordering some parts and then it should be ready for break in.

I miss my 89 'camry. Was my car in HS. Mine had a cassette player and I would pop in a cassette adapter and plug into my iPod, drive my friends around. I've owned a couple cars since then but the Camry remains my favorite... "the pioneers used to ride these babies for miles"

My first car was white 1990 Camry Gli 2.0 manual what cost only 800€, but i drove it 7 years and it was very reliable car. I accually still have it and everything works on it, even electric mirrors and windows, but it got too rusty in our climate and salty roads. I haul firewood with it on our property every year. 480 000 km on odo.

I have a 1990 Camry and I agree with your review. Mine was bought at 213L miles and now has about 100K more. If I could find one that looks like the one you are driving I would buy it immediately. Mine was somewhat beat up on the outside when I bought it over 12 years ago. Still looks the same and drives great.

This is almost exactly the same as my first car except mine had a sunroof. I loved it so much and I wish I still had it!! I sold it for $1,000 with 350,000 miles and it still worked perfect when I sold it! Other then the usual maintenance I only had to replace the alternator, exhaust, and the radiator!

My first car was a 1990 Camry Deluxe. Power locks windows had great heat and ac for the 250$ we spent on it. I think it only had 130k on it. It was kinda trashy looking cause the paint was faded but I loved it. Was a good first car for me in 2011. It was good on mileage and was peppy enough for me. Unfortunately being a New England car it was very rotted out underneath and after a large bump at speed it cracked the body underneath. I was and still am sad that car is gone. Used to fill it with all my friends and I’m 6’1” and this was one of a few cars I owned where someone could sit comfortably behind me. Currently have a 2016 Camry I got with really low miles and plan to have that car for ever.

Wow! That is pristine, this was my first car! Then went on to the wagon model of this generation , then after that guess what? I got another camry a 1999 Vienta Grande (the most luxurious camry) that was the best car I've ever had! Now i have a 2007 Turbo Diesel Toyota Hilux truck (pictured in my profile photo) , a 2004 Lexus es300 and a 2001 JDM import all wheel drive Toyota Caldina GTT turbo (shares the 3sgte from the turbo mr2) as a weekend toy/racecar. God I love Toyotas and especially 80s/90s/early 2000s ones

I have a white 1991 Camry. It has the same 2.0L 4 speed automatic. Currently running amazingly with 202,500 miles. And my AC blows colder than my brothers 06 bimmer lol. It’s my daily. This thing is indestructible. Probably my favorite car that I’ve ever owned. There’s just something about the black bumpers with the chrome trim all around lmao.

I rented one back in 1989 exactly like the one in your video. This was in a mountainous part of B.C. and I was astonished by the power and the fuel economy I got. I would hit the summit at 80 mph without any effort. It did everything well. Great driving experience, braking, super good transmission, A/C, seats you could drive in for 24 hours without tiring, no squeaks or rattles I loved it! My only blunder was not buying one once I got home. I deeply regret not buying a 1994 Camry LE V6 as well because I thought $27,000 was too much. Instead I bought a 1994 Taurus GL which is a piece of junk. Regret it to this day! Same color as your car. Those were the cars that made Toyota’s name. Did not rust out as well!!

My mom still has her 1990 Celica St and I recognize a lot of the parts ie clock, shifter, stereo system, gauges, power window switches, which are like my immaculate 1997 lexus es300. Cool Camry in awesome condition. My car is Camry underneath. Solid cars. My moms Celica has no rattles.

Back in 2006-09 I had two of these. A ‘88 and ‘91. Both great cars. The 1988 was my first car. Had a 88 in Chicago and sold it to move to Charlotte, then bought the 1991 Camry there for $1200 until someone rear ended it while it was parked unfortunately.
