The popular 1990's sub-team Sky Patrol toys featured real-working parachutes for the figures and silver chrome vehicles. There were six figures and 4 vehicles (all sold separately). This review focuses on Airwave (the communications expert) and the Sky Havoc (a repaint of the 1986 HAVOC).

I didn't cover this thought in my video, but why does an airborne unit need a ground vehicle? Serious answer: it's an anti-aircraft defense vehicle. Silly answer: it's their taxi to and from the airfield.

I remember Sky Patrol fondly (perhaps too fondly) for giving me an opportunity to obtain some of the classic vehicles I missed when they were first issued due to being a bit too young at the time. The only thing that seems odd to me now are that the ranks seem way out of line for these characters.

What made Hasbro decide on these vehicles for the sky patrol? Did they just pick them out of a hat ?

You're not far off from the truth. As the Sky Hawk, Sky Havoc and Sky Sharc are all made in Brazil (by Estrella/Hasbro), whatever moulds they were ready to ship back to the US were used. If it were up to Hasbro (USA) the Havoc would be replaced by the '88 Skystorm (*they mentioned that at a convention a few years ago).
