This one was mine, I was the chassis engineer at HSV in 1990. I set up the 5000 to mimic the spring, roll bar and tyre stiffness of the Porsche 928, we modified the front upper strut mount for more caster as the 225/16's wandered a bit. We built a big Aussie family sedan that drove like a Euro GT. I also styled the steering wheel, I drew up a sketch on an A4 lined note pad, it was a hybrid of the standard MOMO three spoke and the ergonomic four spoke, I faxed it to Italy and when samples arrived a few weeks later everyone loved it. When HSV switched to leather wrapped Holden airbag wheels MOMO added it to their standard catalogue, you can still by it today.

Hi Neil d, That's amazing. Wow what are the chances of having a guy who was the chassis engineer for HSV. it's an honour to meet you and very interesting you did all of this. I did really enjoy the Sv5000 a lot. Thanks again for watching I really appreciate it and for sharing your history with us all here on the channel.

@10:32, what was going on there? Aside from the tyre chirp, I saw/heard 5 uncouth "shunts"? under acceleration.
@agautomotive2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, Thanks for watching. The gearbox has been modified so it changes erratically and also bumps on the road from the suspension would be the noises as well as central coast roads can be quite bumpy.

Hi The Getaway:Brazil, Yes that's correct in Australia we had the re-engineered version of the Opal Omega re-named the Holden Commodore. It was sold all around the world under different names and configurations

Have you ever removed the centre rubber from the steering wheel? Just peals off for a nice surprise.

Hi Loc, No I haven't. What's the surprise ?
@locsmith33382 жыл бұрын
@@agautomotive I had a SV90 in the late 90’s. Miss it and shouldn’t have parted with. While in traffic, I peeled the centre rubber of the steering wheel off, and underneath was a black steel Momo wheel, with a centre SV decal horn press. Just took the wheel to another level.

@@locsmith3338 that's awesome thanks for that. I appreciate it and yes it would have been nice to have kept it but we all make a decision at the time.

Hi Steve, Yes it was.

Disagree... nothing bread and butter about it... I remember when the SV5000 first came out it oozed style... The forefather of the Senator...

"Bread and Butter" meaning: "work that pays the bills". as opposed to having fun. Homologation specials are fun, but not very profitable.
@OliverMoore19733 жыл бұрын
@@bodgiesteve8849 Sorry... I thought you meant the other version of bread and butter.... 'basic' or... just having the basics...
