It was like a fucking explosion of creativity and expression and like you said that's not even touching on film, television and other genres of music.....
@dawb863 ай бұрын
@7adruler You have to understand it's not just about the fact that there hasn't still been plenty of great music released in the 2000s/10s/20s decades as well. There has but it's not a debate at all, things have undoubtedly become more individualistic in the new era. Little to no great hip hop/R&B groups, nowhere near the same emphasis on putting together great compilations, soundtracks, etc. In the current mainstream approach to music, things have actually reverted for the most part back to how it was in the early pop music era (50s/early 60s) when everything was more singles-oriented rather than a focus on making full album artistic statements. Add to that the fact most artists believed uniqueness as artists was what made one a star and considered it important to not sound like other acts and there's almost no comparison to the 90s and the modern era at all. Just two different mental processes in the creative conceptualizing of the music altogether.

It's like this, the best rappers are in the 2000s, but the best hip hop artists are in the 90s. You've got the best of the best in the 2000s, that's where you have Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nas, Eminem, Andre 3K, and so many more, I appreciate they are cross overs, but that is the prime era for those artists. Where in the 90s you've got the explosion of hip hop, where hip hop really broke its way through with true legends. So if we pin point the actually golden years, even though 85-95 is where all the pioneers are from, the best hip hop came from 95-2005, with the most pinnacle point being 99-02, this isn't pin pointing the artists individually, this is pin pointing the years where the levels were at its highest for a lot of people dropping big hits constantly. See the old head haters will say 2000s what you crazy? ain't nobody trying to dance to soulja boy and kill their mamma (I do get this statement though LOL) But this is the reason why 2000s wins over the 1990s, you would be better to say 85-95 and 95-2005 then 95-2005 wins with flying colours that there is no debate other than don't forget your roots 2000s as follows Ludacris - DMX - Nelly - Jermaine Dupri - Kanye West - Outkast - Dem Franchize Boyz - 50 Cent - Eminem - Jay Z - Nas - Terror Squad - Snoop - Twista - Missy Elliot - Meth & Red - Busta - Mos Def - Eve - Lil Wayne - Wu Tang - Lil John (hurts to say that 1) - TI - Cam'Ron - Chamillionaire - Dead Prez - Scarface - the list can go on Don't get me wrong, it hurts to say it because my time is the 90s but the truth is the better rappers were in the early 2000s and most of them came through the 90s but it is what it is.

The 1990's is most definitely the absolute greatest decade for Music in general AND rap/hip hop BUT people forget how dope the 2000's were! Especially Music that came out literally after New Year's Day transitioning from 1999 into 2000. I don't care what nobody says because the 2000's were dope AF! People already forget how wonderful the emergence of "Neo-Soul" & R&B in General was in tha 2 triple "0". India Aire, Jagged Edge, Next, Musiq Soulchild, Usher establishing himself, Ne-Yo & Chris Brown, Jaheim, Tank, Tyrese & Brian MCKnight later 2000's releases, Blaque, 3LW, Destiny's Child, No Question etc....etc.....SO many r&b acts & one hit wonders in early 2G. Eminem dropped his debut in 99' & continued to release hits, Mos Def & Talib Kweli became popular around 2000, Dilated People's & Jurassic 5 became hot around this time, Black Eyed Peas, Aceyalone, Planet Asia & Rasco Cali Agents, Lupe Fiasco, MadLib, Dre & Snoop. DMX was still droppin' bangers in the 2000's. Kanye West & Papoose became popular around the 2000's. I think Canibus became quite popular in 99' and onwards. The High & Mighty. Rawkus Records dropped "Soundbombing 2" & Lyricist Lounge 2 around this time. LOTS of compilations & mixtapes in the early 2000's. Producer 9th Wonder gained traction & recognition in the 2000's with Little Brother. The 2000's brought some HEAT!!! 🔥 Even mainstream "Pop" Music was pretty dope in the EARLY 2000's. I remember buying & listening to dopeness as late as around 2006. 2007-2009 is when the trend suddenly started to change into some weird 2010's vibe. 06/07 were really the last years, unless you delved into the UNDERGROUND for good Music. The 2000's really weren't bad at all up until a certain point. Early 2K reminded me of LATE 90's Flava. Subtle differences but still a VIBE.

90’s Go 80s or 90s? In that one i go with 80s
@dawb864 ай бұрын
Nah. The eighties as incredible as it was didn't REALLY get to popping off super hard til about the time of Run-D.M.C.'s first album (84). In the 90s, in hindsight, we were witnessing genre-defining classics being released almost every three or four months for a WHOLE DECADE STRAIGHT.....

@@Jlangdon92 Speakerboxxx/Love Below and Black Album were '03 as well. I don't know why people stay talking disrespectful about that year lol. I'd say it was around 07/08-ish that things started getting real sketchy. I don't think it's much coincidence that was around the time when Soulja Boy started blowing up...

If u don’t have the trailblazers from the 90’s hip hop era, u don’t get the legends we have today that blew up in the 2000’s. Always gotta give 💐 to those that came before us who paved the way. 🗣️💯

The 80s was it's come up, the mid to late 90s was its peak especially with lyricism, the early 2000s was when it's steady decline began.
@jay832 ай бұрын
That is tough question, reason being is because it was artist that came out in 90s that dominated the early 00s that was most of their prime year's
@deejayjacobs20183 ай бұрын
Both, essentially 90s was the golden era but there was some iconic music in the 2000s too I guess it depends what era you grew up in,the 90s was my teenage years but the 2000s was my transitioning to an adult I loved all music of those decades.

93 was the best year in Hip Hop. The whole 90s was definitely the best era period. 2000 was the Puffy shiny suit era. It became too polished and mechanical...What made Hip Hop dynamic was it's raw creativity.. the raw energy it brought in the 90s

Historicaly 90's. All my top 5 dropped in the 90's a couple didn't live to see 2000's but the ones who did was still dropping fire albums in the 2000's
@mfoot20123 ай бұрын
I pick 90's simply because it was heavily competitive and based on skill. And skill is what sold records. No one bought your shit if you weren't dope. The 2000's had its stars but that's when we started to allow anyone into the rap game due to the internet taking off, Soundcloud, and streaming services. Even if you sucked, people still listened to your shit cause they didn't have to "pay" for it. That's still true today.

The 90's is the best hip hop era ever! Lyricism was top tier. NYC is so far ahead of the culture, the style, the slang..... All roads to hip hop greatness had to go thru NY. Everyone else was a bonus.
