An old neighbour of mine worked for the OPP and in '95, they briefly tried the Taurus as the main marked police car. I remember him saying that they were too small inside. They went back to the Crown Vic's.

@SFX211476 Its not a Yamaha 3.8L. Just the regular 140hp 3.8L that was used in every other Taurus bumper to 150hp with the SHO exhaust

@91Taurus Why did police detective vehicles stop using those dashboard removable lights? Now they equip the interior with lights and you can obviously see them unless they are extremely tinted black. They should go back to the removable lights.

I think the reason for the extra lighting in a lot of today's unmarked units is for extra visibility when responding to an emergency. Some unmarked units actually have sun-visor mounted lights where you just flip down the sun visor, kind of old school. But it's all based on department needs.

@91Taurus Did they not use the SHO engine because there wasn't an automatic transmission to be mated to the engine till 93? I wouldn't think the cops would want a stick. Kinda funny that they would use all SHO stuff but leave the awsome engine out of the equation.

Finally someone gets it. My aunt's 92 Sable LS wagon has over 200,000 miles on it and it still has its original factory transmission on it. Fluid and filter changed on it every 30,000 miles and no problems ever.

Ivan is a liar on the quota system. I hear that the Taurus of this period took longer distance to stop then the Crown Victoria did. That is the Crown Vic with the aero body and no ABS or with ABS.

@91Taurus who said it was the regular 140hp? the 3.0 was in the normal taurus which had 140hp. the SHO had a 3.0 which put out 220 hp. there was no yamaha 3.8 nor a regular 3.8. im sure this 3.8 (only in police units) has around 200hp like the SHO

"she's going about 125mph" Sorry, but the calibration of his speedo is WAY off. That Cabrio could barely top 100 on a good day, and with the top up. Top down, it would have to be towed by a Corvette to hit 125. Something to ponder the next time you're pulled over...
