Don't worry about this being a boring video; I found it very interesting and informative. Managed, as a non DCS player, to get a handle on the complexities and a better understanding of the terminology and display information etc. Gives you a better understanding and appreciation of what the guys go through. Nice one.

Command and control hint: when you put out a "net" call (where you put out instructions to your entire groups), they should reply in a set sequence. So they don't all answer at the same time and you can determine who did not hear the net call.

The term technical describing such a vehicle originated in Somalia in the early 1990s. Barred from bringing in private security, non-governmental organizations hired local gunmen to protect their personnel, using money defined as "technical assistance grants". Eventually, the term broadened to include any vehicle carrying armed men.[1] Technicals have also been referred to as battlewagons, gun wagons,[2] or gunships.

I had thought the term traced back to 1987 in Chad, and the way the French "technical assistance" delivered and helped arm up Toyota Land Cruiser pickups for use as Milan and Redeye missile platforms in anti-tank and ADA warfare against the Libyans and their proxies (the "Toyota War")?

The neologism technical describing such a vehicle is believed to have originated in Somalia during the Somali Civil War in the early 1990s.[1][2] Barred from bringing in private security, non-governmental organizations hired local gunmen to protect their personnel, using money defined as "technical assistance grants". Eventually the term broadened to include any vehicle carrying armed men.[3] However, an alternative account is given by Michael Maren, who says the term was first used in Somalia in the 1980s, after engineers from Soviet arms manufacturer Tekniko mounted weapons on vehicles for the Somali National Movement during the Somaliland War of Independence.[1] Technicals have also been referred to as battlewagons and gunwagons.[4] Wikipedia

The brief time I visited "Old York" in the UK, I fell in love. What a beautiful old city, the people were very nice, and just such a great time. It's an ancient place, going back beyond Roman times, with streets that look straight out of a Harry Potter movie.

You have to forgive my provincialism... I come from part of the world where a building from the early 1900s is the oldest one in town. York is the kind of place where the neighborhood pub on the corner has been in business since the 1700s and isn't even considered a historic landmark or anything...

Aaaah, Sweet Memories of that night. I was a Naval Aircrewman, and we were at the top of the Persian Gulf performing a distraction - striking Falakah Island in a Seahawk Helicopter (basically unarmed), and the Kuwaiti Coast to make the Iraqis think the Marines would land at Kuwait. My little brother was with the Amphip Group driving ship's boats toward the beach. No full data-link, so we didn't KNOW the Army//Air Force had struck until we landed... back when CNN did NEWs. We had a GPS that the Maintance Officer bought at a sportings good store before we left Japan, NO NVGs, a Viet Nam Era starlight scope, and a jurry rigged M-2 gun in the crew door. All our ASW gear was left on the hangar gear. A few years later, the Navy gave us Hellfires and real guns. HARD to realize it was 30+ years ago.

It may be worth noting, when comparing mpg figures, that a US gallon is 3.8 L, whereas an Imperial gallon is 4.5 L. Consequently, the exact same car will get approximately 20% higher mpg if you use Imperial gallons than if you use US gallons.

Grump, Cap really has built quite an empire with Grim Reapers, which is commendable, but he is a loose cannon. He flat said he wasn't handling comms, and he took off and left aircraft behind. If you are going to be part of the inner circle, you need to keep a few brain cells on the scan for times like this when things start falling apart. You did eventually step up, but only after Red Flight pointed it out after THEY were contacted by White Flight.

Hey Cap, (re your comments around the 55 minute mark). I used to have a 59reg Toyota iQ, where I once had (only once) 84mpg on a 70 mile trip (one way on A roads) where I was mostly stuck behind trucks/slow movers at around 40mph (this was before trucks were allowed to drive faster). The next best I got was 72mpg, same journey, different day and month without too much of the slow movers. Our little car was great for reliability.

42:24 My reaction was the same as cap's. 47:53 It's probably because they either did something super classified or they don't wanna talk about it. 2 examples from my personal experience. 1) My recently deceased grandfather flew spitfires in WW2 out of RAF Innsworth (I think. he was defo based there for a bit. Base is now RAF Imjin). I only found out because he got invited to an event with my father and some of my dads mates at the severn valley railway when I was about 12 (so before cap was born). It was an in period event so they got my grandad an RAF uniform. He went fucking mental. Refused to wear it and that is the only time I heard any detail of his story. Because i live in the general 20 mile radius of Imjin, grandad use to flap about how he used to walk from the other side of gloucester to get to the base on the daily and that i had no idea how easy i had it (he had no idea about my mental health issues). Post war he spent his days in his shed reading the paper or machining something only to appear for sustainance. 2) This my personal experience. I have not served but i have done some work, indirectly, for her majesty as an IT engineer. That's all i can say. My parents both have or have previously held eyes only clearance, in one of/a mixture of/all of the following the UK, France and the US. I can't even tell them anything. If I say any more everyone gets put on a watchlist and if you ask questions past that you get a visit from some of the boys from an army base near Hereford and they will not be nice. For that reason I don't tell anyone anything normally and that's for their protection. 57:10 Cap, remember Daewoo? They became the european arm of chevy for a while. Then they went away. Then Ford started selling the Mustang globally. Chevrolet Had to compete. And so started to sell cars in europe because selling them only in the US, canada and australia in the current market doesn't make sense (and they have to compete with ford). And so since about 2019 it has been possible (if you can afford the car (which is like twice what it is in the US) then the insurance (only rich oap's can afford it) and find a dealer (basically aren't any)) to buy a camaro in right hand drive.

The discussion on GR members employment was interesting but I must admit to being a trifle disappointed. In my mind, what little there is left of it, I had an image of Fly still scooting around Europe in an old beaten up 109, ambushing Cessna's, still fighting the war that he can't believe they lost, (again), like those old Japanese soldiers that used to appear from the jungle on remote islands, still thinking the war was on decades after it was over. Building pools; really..?

US Army is not currently allowed to fly fixed wing air craft, and while the Air Force is allowed to fly rotary wing air craft, as they can fly anything that flies, they leave most of the rotary stuff to the Army and Marines. I'm not sure how "official" that rule is, but I've heard it from several army and air force people, so I find it plausible at worst... FORD: Fix Or Repair Daily. See Also: First On Race Day. Looks like loads of fun, ToT will likely be the challenge in the near future. You look nice and eager to find the enemy though. Your Wingman might get old real fast. Do yourself a favor and practice indirect rocket fire and check the curve of range in relation to altitude. You should find it far more consistent than what one might expect out of an FFAR, as the Hydra 70 is pretty spiffy, even with optional warheads. I would almost never take them in loadout if I had a choice, but choice is rarely offered unless you married the ADMOC's daughter last week... LOL, Otherwise, it's all ripple fire in the TZD and RTB. I believe DCS is coded fairly accurate, though I am not entirely sure. Fun reading; man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/smart/jp3_09_1.pdf
