Lots of changes to the buildings, but the biggest change is that it's one generation later, so - basically - the young people walking around there today are the children of the young people who are in this video....

Thanks. Tokyo in 90s was beautiful, it had its own unique atmosphere.
Lyle, Natsukashii! I am in Japan on and off all my Life and you are video taping all my old haunts. Japan has been changing and 1991was my heyday. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for commenting! Me too actually - I don't feel as much of a need to record things these days....

Simply amazing I was there recently and it makes me really feel nostalgic watching this, I can recognize a lot of the places and I appreciate your work to show us how Tokyo looked back then, I love this city, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! When I get into something, I kind of dive in with both feet. After taking a lot of (analog) video from 1990-93, I gave up when the equipment all broke down (bubble-era equipment bought with a bubble-era job) and for over a decade I thought I had just wasted my time taking all that... and then stronger computers and KZbin came along....

@@j-555 It was kind of exciting actually - as companies were coming out with new gadgets and existing gadgets always had more features when the next model came along. Now that everything has been consolidate into smart phones, it's just that one device, but back then each function tended to be an independent machine/device.

I remember those places and the feelings I had at a younger age. Really enjoyed your postings. Keep them coming. You remind me of a friend I had at the same time.
Love your videos especially this one. I always stay in Shibuya countless trips and it’s awesome to see the familiar places and how it was like decades ago like i travelled back in time. 👌🏻
Amazing footage! I am living in Tokyo now. It's strange it's changed hugely but not much at all at the same time :) I wanted to ask if there was any possibility of using some small cuts of the film for a project I have coming up (I am a film-maker)? Jeremy

Hi! About using footage - that depends. I'm becoming less and less enthusiastic about other people using my material (there's a lot of theft, etc.) but on a very limited basis, it might be okay. I need to know details. E-mail me about it.

Lyle hat das Bubble-Japan für die Ewigkeit konserviert, ganz toll.
fascinate by the discipline of the peoples nippon great respect as a french. Something fascinates me about the way they filmed. Don't you think that filming was better back then, even though they probably used an old VHS camcorder? Camcorders were so expensive in the 90s, I never actually had one, not even once.
Could be... It's not such a big deal to aim a camera at yourself... what stopped people from doing it before were factors like the size of the camera and not being able to see what you were recording. People lauged at me a lot back then when I did it....
