1992 Maytag washer

I enjoyed it. That is definitely a well built machine. Like the old saying goes. (They don’t make them like they used to). This is why I prefer older machines like the one shown. I just love it.

I'd love to find a GE filter flo but those seem to be pretty rare. I did see a set of them for sale a couple years ago, were supposed to be in new condition, I shoulda bought them.

I like the sounds of the machines, from the start of normal agitation to the splashing on small load with the ramped activator to the suspension clanking on normal speed spin. You should also consider getting a Whirlpool Clean Touch.

Who knows? lol I do have my great great grandmothers cast iron tub she did laundry in, I would almost rather use it and a wash board instead of most new HE washers.

My 1992 Maytag lasted 26 years. Yhe transmission was leaking oil for about 4 years. The tub seal gave out and I found water all over the floor. It would have needed a new transmission, tub bearings and tub seal and it most likely would have cost close to a thousand dollars altogether to fix. I couldn't find any repairmen to do the job job

Buy a Speed Queen "classic" washer.... model TC5! Do NOT buy the Speed Queen TR model washers! They do NOT get laundry clean!

@@websurfin9575 Unfortunately too late for me. I needed a washer in a hurry when my 1992 Maytag went on the fritz. I bought the 2018 Speed Queen TR5 SERIES WASHER the only model available at the time and not realizing that it wouldn't get clothes clean according to Consumer Reports. Too bad I didn't know about this much sooner before buying another washing machine.

Now that Whirlpool owns the Maytag brand they have decided to discontinue making the parts for these old machines. On Appliance parts websites they now say the part is nolonger available. Most of the old Maytag transmissions are now discontinued. That is why repair people don't want to do the job. They know the parts are discontinued. Now people are parting out the old machines, and are selling the parts on Ebay. This machine agitates and turns the clothes in the water. It has a better agitator to turn the clothes that is much better than my new Whirlpool made Maytag has. When the clothes turn they get cleaner.

@@websurfin9575 Unfortunately in in 2018 only the TR SERIES TR3, TR5 and TR7 were only available for that year. Not realizing that these washers don't get clothes clean according to Consumer Reports. I desperately needed a new washing machine because my 1992 Maytag went on the fritz. Transmission oil leaking, severe vibration during the spin even with a perfectly balanced load, finally water all over the floor.

I meant to ask. Is this a smaller capacity/standard tub ? I see the three holes on the agitator and the tub does look smaller.

Yes, this is just the standard capacity washer, pretty small but does a really good job with turn over.

@@BillyLee25 It never dawned on me that there was a standard capacity version of these. I guess I always saw these in the larger capacity and figured Maytag went to a larger capacity washer. Cool!

I actually removed and bypassed the lid switch, funny how it was a lot more complicated than the whirlpool lid switch.
