I've seen one of these in the flesh in Australia (someone imported as well likely) about 15 years back and didn't know what it was! ..and always kind of wanted one. How rare are these and are they pretty hard to get? what kind of prices are the looking for?

Less than 4400 made, just turned 25 years old making it just legal to import in US; prices are going up because of this. Budget $9-15k from Japan-side, pending on condition and trim-level from auctions, retail in Japan $12-20k. There was an annual AZ-1 meet up in Japan last week and about 70 cars were there. When I was shopping for one I had about a dozen bookmarked from Japanese retail /dealers. At the time maybe 3 in auction sold in the 2 months I was searching. Rare, but not impossible to find if you're willing to pay retail.

I really like the AZ1! The only things I have against it are the driving position, the size of the stock steering wheel (too big) and the stock suspension... Too much body roll, makes the car really unstable when quick steering movements are required.

I have a 12" wheel on mine with KYB shocks; there are many performance parts upgrades like body stiffeners, etc. Most stock cars aren't the best stock

AyameWilson it's a minor mistake, Derek said he was super busy and mixed up some stuff. I'm the future owner of this AZ-1 and can confirm it's being imported to Finland. Also it is 1993.

Also, the car looks good but it has been fully repainted, which helps... Bumpers were not black on AZ-1 they were grey. And the Cappuccino is the better car... just saying :)

traxnada repaint is easy and cheap on these because all visible panels are detachable.

It's the same drive train as a Cappuccino. Which is better is personal opinion. Just saying :)

Nicanor Santillan It's the same engine... One car is MR while the other is FR... The difference in dynamics is night and days. Not to mention that the steering rack of the Az-1 is much much tighter than on the Cappuccino. Both cars literally have nothing in common in term of driving experience.

They weigh 500lbs less than a Miata NA. Feels like you're going 1.5x faster than you really are, just more fun for the buck. I can more than keep up with traffic while getting 50mpg. 660cc is enough for most people in the car.
