It took close to 1.3 liters. We used one full 1-liter container plus partial of the second 1-liter container. The Mercedes specification says 1.3 liters, and we just filled it until it overflowed.

You should always remove the filler plug first just in case you can't open the filler plug. Then you would end up having no oil in the differential.
@mannys913011 жыл бұрын
Always crack the fill plug FIRST so if it's siezed you won't be left with a dry diff and no way to fill it. Also, that color is very concerning. It looks like there is lots of metal particulate in that oil. That would be a sign if excessive wear or even a hint at future death of the differential. If I saw that, I would put a magnet in a plastic bag and swirl it in the pan to get an idea of actually how much metal us in the fluid.

The w124 chassis has two different sizes of differentials, 185mm and 210mm The smaller 185mm takes around 0.8-0.9L and the bigger 210mm takes as in the video 1.3L Easiest way to see what you have is to look under the car. The 210mm has a mounting point on the front of the housing at the prop shaft. The small 185mm does not have this mounting point.

Thank you for making this video. Can you leave a link to the oil that was used? How much oil would a 240d need? Is there a danger if over filled?

Hi, How much oil did it actually take? 1 or 1.3 liter? Asking just because my local dealer says it only takes 0.9 to 1 liters.

I have a 1993 (300e) w124 with m104 engine. I have a rear axle leak really small but you know how that goes with the leak it only gets bigger. I've seen the steps on how to remove the rear differential plate to replace the gasket. Is there any stop leak I can use for the rear differential that won't change the viscosity of the oil too much question mark anybody know I'd appreciate it

That's a nasty oil leak on the diff. Fix that first or you will be filling up with oil every time you fill the gas tank. lol.

Loosen/remove the filler plug first THEN the drain plug! Rookie mistake there bud!
@dlwst449 жыл бұрын
i was thinking the EXACT same thing!
@CemArmutcu7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely you are right bro. Process sequence is incorrect. First off all, he had to unscrew the filler plug and than loosen drain plug
@TrainerTakumi7 жыл бұрын
why does it matter........
@murphenur7777 жыл бұрын
Because if you can't get the fill plug off you can't refill it. So if you take the drain plug out first you can be stuck with no way to refill it.
