Is it possible to install an aftermarket radio and retain steering wheel controls by just getting a harness adapter without the interface? I have a 2005 Z71 Chevy Avalanche and I don’t care about on star but would love to retain my steering controls. I’ve never had a stereo install and lose my key fob abilities but something about the Bose system just seems odd to me.

Hey - thanks for this video, super helpful. I was just about to pull the trigger on all these parts for my 2004 Yukon XL, but I’m concerned that I would lose XM radio. Do you know if I used the same radio that you used, would I be able to keep XM? I can’t tell if that depends on the radio head unit or the wiring harness, or something else?
@ProvoBeastAudio Жыл бұрын
Hey there, yes, this requires you to have a radio that is XM radio ready, and you will also have to purchase the XM module to retain your service with the new radio. amzn.to/2WM1ULH. The radio we used isn't XM ready, but higher end Pioneers, or this Sony is compatible: amzn.to/3ALE9EH. Feel free to send me a message on our facebook page with any other questions!
@elpowderman Жыл бұрын
Nice! Thank you! I kind of figured out after poking around, both in terms of what “XM” ready means and the fact that you have to buy the tuner (and also how to wire it to the existing antenna). Do the higher-end stereos that are XM ready basically go in the same way, and would they use the same Crux wiring harness?

Since the Crux kit comes with an antenna adapter, is the seperate GM extension required?
@FrozenMopars2 жыл бұрын
2004 Denali, factory Bose system. Installed Kenwood DMX970S. Crux kit extension works just fine. But the stock antenna cable has enough length on its own. Bose stereo has 2 connectors on the back, crux kit only hooked up to the larger of the two connectors. Stereo works fine, but no steering wheels controls. Will update once I figure that out.

Just wired myself up a kenwood head unit on an 03 silverado today with SteeringWheelControls(swc) and bose system.....all said and done i also had no power and found a video that led me to my solution....on the harness that came with my kenwood unit, is a Blue wire that is labeled PowerControl/Power Antenna...as stated in the video insaw i didnt use this wire under the assumption i didnt need it because i dont use a powered antenna.....come to find out..by tieing that blue wire into the Crux's 24 pin blue/white and the blue/yellow from my 4 pin SWC, it then powered my amp and i had sound! So all 3 need to be wired/soldered together..to test before i rewired it all, i just stripped the blue power control wire and touched it to my already made-up connection from my blue/white&blue/yellow..it was about a 2 second delay of holding the wires together that it rook my bose amp to power up and then i had sound!...hopefully something similar will help in your case, either way, theres answers out there and its def just a simple wiring issue somewhere in your harness
