Decided 2 months ago at the ripe old age of 51 to live the dream and learn to ride a motorcycle with the goal of doing a Morocco/North Sahara tour next year. Just purchased my own '98 XRV750 in Red/White/Blue this last weekend and intend to add many more miles on top of its current 22k!

You made the bike honer it’s name :) I have multiple motorcycles, also the new Africa twin, but that old one I also never gonna sell. The bike has just something magical, hard to explain. Some people keep it in a mind condition, but I like mine more and more as it comes with rust, bumps etc in it. Let’s call that character 😃

Hi Roland. You’ve made a good choice. I bought a 2000 Africa Twin just over two years ago. I’m not a great fan of bikes but saw a couple of Africa Twins in North Africa (on KZbin) and fell in love. I’ve done the same mods as you, plus a few more to improve protection off-road. It’s the red, white and blue version so I didn’t feel the need to change the colour of any particular parts. I live in one of the flattest parts of England, less than 10m above sea level so have to travel to find good hilly off-road tracks but that’s no hardship. Have fun.

Useful video. They are appreciating in the UK and I have one with 9000 miles only. Keep it standard if you want it to go up in value. I think it is hard work above 60 mph as under geared with 45 tooth rear sprocket. Am contemplating going down one tooth to 44 . Other than that excellent and a lot lighter than my G1200 Adventure! Enjoy and good luck in Eastern Europe.

Great bike, great engine, pity about the counter shaft issue same as bros etc. If u get one make sure to grease the splines on the counter shaft/output shaft inside of the front sprocket and to get the right sprocket that covers the width of the splines. Trust me you don't want this headache to split the crankcase and 250 quid for basically a piece of machined steel. And don't overtighten the chain either, a scottoiler also helps.

It's a really great machine, but, in my opinion, the best achieved is the RD04 🔥 It has better chassis (superior driving position and maneuverability), is more robust (bullet-proof frame and adjustable suspensions), sensors in the tank that provide fuel level information... RD04 is another category 👌

Very nice vid my friend! I always liked this bike and I 'd love to buy a good one (I'm in deep search). Can you please tell me, how many kilometers can do with one full tank? Of course It depends on the way you drive but let's say you are a normal driver, so what is the optimum mileage you achieved till now? Some people say it consumes 5.9 lt/km, some others 6.9-7.2lt/km. In other words, what the tripmaster reads when you put your left hand on ...the reserve switch? (!) Thanks in advance and hope the best for you!
@TheRideWithRoland3 жыл бұрын
Hij Dimitri. I don’t know yet. Been mostly working on the bike and just repaired the tripmaster 😃 I think it will be around 5/6 Lt/km but depends on your riding. I like to crank it open so I don’t get it very economic 😬 But, there will be some video’s over the bike so I will take that one also in it then.

@@dimitrisg.4504 its a cool bike the old twin. But honestly? They are overpriced. For the same money you can get a lot younger Vstrom or a Honda Nc750x. The old twin is a bit of a cult bike I think. I also have the new Africa twin as you might know. What I like about the old twin is that it’s lighter then the new twin. I don’t care if I scratch it and most things are easy to repair or change. When you buy a old Africa twin you are not gonna loose money on it. It will be probably more worth when you are gonna sell it. I bought mine for 3250 euro, and next year I am gonna sell it for 5500, ofcourse I did some work to it ( costs around 800?) but it’s a damned good bike then 😃 I will make a longer term review on the bike, also how it is off-road so stay tuned my friend ! :)

@TheRideWithRoland Жыл бұрын
Ofcourse, but we are talking about a twin. It’s not a inline 4 engine like the 1000rr. Those engine’s are made for the high revs. It’s not the brand, but the type of engine :)
@Big1_8 ай бұрын
I was looking to buy one, but 52hp for 210kg is not good.... Sorry... Im not going to tolerate 210kg for 52hp, for that weight i need at least 75hp, and it´s surrealistic that a Bi/twin engine can´t perform at least 70-80hp... For that power ratio better to put a single piston and bualá, 50hp, less weight, more torque and better all around.
@danielreis29477 ай бұрын
62hp* 62 nm torque, t7 has 68 nm 😂I feel like it comes lower in the rpms too.. Numbers can't speak for itself, it confidently can take you places the sport bike won't I don't know how comfortable a highway ride on that one piston can be but I'll sell my RD07 if you tell me it's nearly the same, turns out length weight and balanced engine are good things in the highway
