My Avanti 499b has the flimsy metal sights you speak of and the highly adjustable ones. Used, to me, Daisy sent me a set of front sight inserts for free.

In good weather you may have to put a little honey or jam on a target & shoot flies off it. It's that accurate. Great find with good history. Sweet!!!

True. Great accuracy at up to 22 feet. Bows at 30 feet but can still hit and bounce off a soda can. Misses at 35 feet.

If you take the rear sight off the 499B you can mount a dovetail-to-weaver/picatinny adapter in its place, allowing a scope, red dot, or whatever. With the sheet metal sight base on top of the gun being so short, only about a third or so of the length of the adapter actually clamps onto it, but it seems solid enough.

I shoot Daisy Match Grade BBs out of my 499b with great results. Give those a try as well if you have any on hand!

I was wondering what would happen if you put in a DAISY MODEL 499B COMPLETE HIGH PERFORMANCE PLUNGER ASSEMBLY. Supposed to add significant velocity. Would it destroy the superb accuracy of this gun? I'm thinking it probably would but it might be fun to try. Seems like a project right up your alley.

I put a standard Red Ryder spring in one 499b that I have….pushing 400fps no change in accuracy that I can detect…Avanti BBs are actually the accuracy ammo for these guns

Two questions to an expert about the Daisy Red Ryder. 1) Like most, mine also shoots to the left. Can you twist the windage a bit with a pair of pliers. 2) what oil do you use after the prescribed 500 shots?

I think that is the only way you could adjust the sight on those. I use pellgun oil but I am not certain that is the prescribed stuff. There is a lot of back and forth on that!

My Red Ryder shoots straight, but if you need to adjust it, just use pliers and bend the rear sight a little bit. Daisy says to use 30w non-detergent motor oil. But most people just use Pellgun Oil from Crosman, which is a very good lubricant for air guns.

I love my muzzle loader Daisy . It gets shot @ 10 instead of its intended 5 M & its fun knocking off Perrywinkle & Marigold flowers .

The problem is it’s one of the weakest fps BB guns. Sure it’s accurate, but most any BB gun is within 10’. Go out 10 meters and you would be surprised how inaccurate it is? Daisy made some beautiful guns but sure screwed the pooch with fps.

You think it'd have enough power to even kill a sparrow? I guess most of the ones I've played with have had worn out springs, but they'd hardly go through a modern beer can. I've often thought my Umarex Trevox would be a good indoor bird gun because it's powerful enough to kill a bird but not powerful enough to go through a tin roof/ceiling.
