The Cowboys/49ers/Packers teams from this era are the most talented teams in NFL history, I don’t care what anyone says. Offensive strategies had really evolved by that point and the salary cap had not yet taken hold. Truly the sweet spot in NFL history.

Crazy part is that Shannon Sharpe's brother, Sterling was HOF quality and got a serious injury (I think back in 1994). If Favre had Sharpe + Freeman + Keith Jackson etc., those Packers teams might have won another ring or so. Niners had Cowboys number only after Jimmy left. Packers always struggled against Dallas because no matter what Favre did, the Packers D COULD NOT STOP Emmitt Smith. He used to run through them like Swiss cheese. Plus Favre always had a knack for throwing up a couple of gimmies and the Dallas D was really good at taking advantage.

By this time everyone was using different variants of the Walsh West Coast Offense, & other coaches like Holmgren & Shanahan were simply better than George Seifert who had coasted to 4 NFCCGs & 2 titles with Walsh's playbook & built the 49ers to beat Dallas, not GB.

The worst decision the 49ers made was not resigning watters and Sanders I believe they win this with those two
@justinturley7071 Жыл бұрын
Yep, at least Watters. Losing Watters made their offense so one dimensional its crazy. Which was the reason they lost 5 games, and if Green Bay swept the Buccaneers, they easily get a 2 seed and a first round bye. Not only that, because of the loss to Atlanta, the 49ers would've had to meet Atlanta again in San Fran, and I don't think they beat the Falcons. The Falcons would've gone to Dallas, while Philadelphia goes to Lambeau.

In the 90s, the Packers totally dominated the 49ers, but at the same time the Cowboys totally dominated the Packers. The 49ers could not beat the Packers. The Packers could not beat the Cowboys. The 49ers had times where they could, and did, beat the Cowboys. But when it was all said and done the Cowboys came out of the 90s with 3 Super Bowl championships while the Packers and 49ers got only 1 each.

@@joesakic91 I agree. I still can't get over the way the Cowboys would abuse the Packers and Brett Favre though. Dallas would just beat the crap out of Green Bay over and over again. @mrcnub2 жыл бұрын
@@scottmitchell3641 When did Green Bay "give up"? I don't remember that at all. I remember them having to go to Dallas seven times in a row, and when the Cowboys finally had to come up north in 1997 the Packers crushed them. LATE 90s. They only played once in the 90s prior to this January 1996 game (49ers won by 4 at Lambeau). I don't think Green Bay does this in 93 and especially not in 94 had the visited The Stick.

Divisional round games had been a formality for the 49ers since 1988 - they usually massacred whoever they played and coasted to the NFC title game. The Packers' win was not as surprising as how they did it - you just did not see that era's 49er teams get thoroughly dismantled like this.

Nah, it was refs and chop blocks that won it for Dallas. GB had the lead going into the 4th quarter, then Dallas turned into rolling logs - one chop block ended Jon Jurkovic’s career that game. Winning it all the following year was satisfying, and we did get our SB with Pittsburgh eventually. But the ‘95 Packers were 1 piece away from besting Dallas.

The 49ers Offense was basically Steve Young and Jerry Rice. No Running Game, Offensive Line had a couple of Guys who were a Little Long in the Tooth, Brent Jones and John Taylor were on Their last legs, JJ Stokes wasn’t ready yet and the Defense while still Good but wasn’t as Great as it was the Year Before. The Packers had none of those problems and it showed.

If @Urinatingtree existed in 1995. The Haters Guide to Super Bowl XXX. The San Francisco 49ers, as there season continues, they look to continue their run of defending their Super Bowl win last year. You should be able to beat Green Bay in the mud hole that is Candlestick Park. Oh yeah, that Favre guy turned out to be a great quarterback and completely stomps you in your own place. The 49ers were expected to win the Super Bowl this year, but defined logic and lost in their first game back in the playoffs against the Packers. With this loss the Dallas Cowboys can easily make a Super Bowl run. I guess losing Ricky Watters to the Eagles and Deion Sanders to the Cowboys really did hurt your team. I just hope this loss doesn't sent you back to irrelevance like the 1960s and 1970s.

@@clickman443 I've always considered the 49ers, Cowboys and Packers as the Big 3. All 3 had the most appearances in the playoff games and all 3 won Super Bowls (Cowboys with the most, with 3 and the 49ers and Packers with 1 each). In those 3, the Packers are the only team in those 25 years to have won a Super Bowl. The 49ers, while good, went to 2 Super Bowls and failed to win each one, then the Dallas Cowboys (unfortunately my team) while they've been to numerous playoff games since Super Bowl 30, and has only won 4 playoff games as I'm writing this, they've failed at not only getting to the NFC Championship Game, but even going to a Super Bowl.

47:37 The defending Super Bowl champion 49ers had the number 1 ranked defense in the NFL in 1995. But here the Packers tear a huge hole in that defense for a 53 yard gain. Robert Brooks pretends he is Alvin Harper from that big Dallas pass play late in the 1992 NFC Championship game three years earlier from nearly the same spot on the field going in the very same direction. Just like that, Green Bay is at the San Francisco 38 yard line, and the 49ers are in grave danger of falling further behind by a mind boggling 28-0.

San Fran was a shell of their old selves this year compared to the year previous. Steve Young was constantly pressured because Ricky Watters was with the Eagles, if Ricky is with them this year, they easily win, but he's not, so the lost.
