In this video I show you how I changed my Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor in my 1995 GMC Suburban. This method should be pretty similar for most American made vehicles.

Cracking vid and well explained, but for anyone whose gauge isn't working. Your sender is down between 1&2. This sender in the vid feeds your ECU

Are there two wires supposed to be going to it? I see only one and temperature gauge still not functioning, even though it does move during test start.

I'm going to change both since they are cheap and my gauge isn't correctly reading the coolant temp.

@@Jimicruz34id it fix your gauge? Mine is stuck at cold and I replaced the one wire sensor on the block and it didn’t fix it. Wonder if the one on top would fix it

More sealant was not needed. And using RTV is the incorrect sealant. any sealant used on the threads should be 'Thread sealant' aka...liquid Teflon.

That's the temperature switch which sends the temp signal to your temp gauge on the cluster.

@@TomasEnriqueAraya So i recently replaced that temperature sending unit because my gauge was reading low. Still reading low I wonder if i have a grounding issue because i did test the gauge in the dash and it works fine.

Why did you replace this part? Was your engine overheating or giving you any signs that the coolant temperature sensor was bad?

It could've been making it hard to start or run rich, possibly a high idle. That sensor is for the ECU. Although he probably just changed it for the hell of it, he did say he wasn't sure if it made his truck run any better.

My old coolant temp switch has the gauge read somewhere between 100 and 210. New coolant temp switch has the gauge read somewhere between 210 and 260. Coolant temp sensor for the computer when connected to a scanner reads 188. How did I mess that up?
