Other centers might have more rings, but I don't believe any center in their prime is outplaying mid-90s Hakeem. Not Shaq, and I haven't seen any other center play the way he did during that time against such exceptional competition and under such pressure to carry his team to championships. He was the only genuine star on his team and dominating against players like David Robinson and Shaq. Best defender. Most offensively skilled center. Tough to find any flaws in Hakeem at his peak. He was incredible.

94>93>90>95, defense matters. However between the first 2 it depends on roster construction, 93 Hakeem would be better as a second option, because of superior rebounding along with him already getting less touches than in 94. 94 Hakeem had demonstrated greater playoff resilience after putting up 28 a game against the best defensive frontcourt ever, much better than his performance against the Supersonics' zone defense, thus he's better as a 1st banana.

I agree with this video and pick Dream too, but man people who never saw Shaq play in his prime days with the Lakers...it's hard to describe how good he was. Like, you can say he was the most dominant big man ever, but that still doesn't do him justice. He was scary- like freaky scary. Some teams would have to carry 2-3 extra bigs because by the end of the 3rd Shaq had everyone in foul trouble. And I was too young to really enjoy Hakeem in his prime, but Shaq literally was double like 80% of the time. If he wasn't, he would score. Simple as that. You could not stop him one on one. I'd go so far as to say no one in the history of the league could stop Shaq one on one.

Consider: (1) a fast break with the offense streaking for the basket; (2) a foul shot with the score tied in the 7th game on the line; (3) having to defend the other team's best scorer who's ready to take a shot far away from the basket--and then answer whom you want to be the man of the moment. Hands-down for me: Hakeem.

Hakeem was the superior center. Shaq was given exceptional privileges by the refs and/or league office in terms of repeatedly getting away with offensive fouls. If offensive fouls were called against him in 2000 and onward the same way they were called against him in 95 and earlier, he would not have been as dominant a scorer in 2000 and onward.

Okay so it's pretty easy for me to explain this one. Let's first define "better". Because domination doesn't always mean "better" to me. Being 350 pounds isnt a basketball skill. I'm my opinion "better" is who is more skilled at basketball. Who can do more within the game and who possesses an arsenal of moves, along with the other various things that make up a player. Shaq was skilled at certain things, but Hakeem was FAR more skilled. I believe Hakeem was the better player. Shaq was more dominant.

Olajuwon should have won MVP even in 93 (Suns without Barkley won 55 games and with Chuck won 62). He had absolutely nobody. The man was a beast. Most skilled center I ever saw and I see NBA since 91. He beat Jabbar, MVP/DPOY Robinson, Ewing, Malone, Barkley, Shaq (everyone on their prime) to make 3 NBA Finals and took legendary Celtics to 6 games. Shaq beat past prime Sabonis, past prime Robinson and Rik Smiths. Just not the same. Olajuwon was better shooter, passer and defender than Shaq.

Tough to play well vs the Spurs were the refs allowed Tim Duncan and David Robinson double team Shaq and get away with murder hacking him throughout the series. Meanwhile the refs swallowed their whistles every time Shaq breathed on Duncan or when he flopped against Shaq.
