@shanefaulkner40713 жыл бұрын
The game you're talking about, Dream was triple teamed from the tip. The sonics game plan was, anyone but Hakeem. No mano on mano there. Robinson - respect eh, for a trophy plays 44 mins in a blowout - team feeds him from the tip, Lucas even instructed his team to foul the Clips in the last min (when up by over 20) so he could scab another 7 points to get him past Shaq. All class...

I’m born and raised in Houston, and I remember when my I got my dad to buy me my first sports jersey. Olajuwon’s. This was in ‘92-‘93 when I was in the 7th grade, and I was picked on by a lot of other kids at school for it. “Why would you pick that jersey? Why not Jordan or Barkley, or someone in style? The Rockets are lame and gay” etc... Even in Houston, it was always “uncool” to be a Rockets or Astros fan, but I saw the brilliance in Hakeem. My dad would use his character and leadership prowess to exemplify to me what it was to have honor and greatness in tandem. Back then, and in the latter stages of his career, Hakeem would rarely ever dunk the ball, and it was for the same reason that he wouldn’t swat it as hard and emphatic as he could when he’d block shots so it would stay in play and could be recovered. Get the easy layup, and get back on defense as soon as possible. Being flashy had zero significance to Hakeem, unless it had a real and significant purpose. Ie: See his dream shake post moves that would drive the defender helplessly nuts! Anyhow, Hakeem led the Rockets to their first world championship that season, and he did so with his unique brand of class. The lessons in life that we learn through our sports heroes and how they played. It was a greatest era for the NBA, in my opinion and from my experience...

When they talk about the goat. Hakeem should be in that conversation every time. He single handidly led the rockets to 2 championships. Clyde was over the hill by the time he got to the rockets. If Hakeem had Scottie pippen, I think they could of easily replicated a 6 peat. And actually they might even have a stronger team, because you could also implement a more team orientated system and Hakeem was the most skilled big man ever. He really was the first big man to ever have guard skills but they never bring that up in most conversations and instead kawai, giannis, etc get all the credit for being bigs with guard skills. Hakeem and scottie gets underatted and overlook so much but they actually bring skills other superstar players dont. Its why teams who get 2 superstars never play to thier full potential. Hakeem is one of those rare players where the full potential can be reached and can play in any system.

I could not hear the whistle I was blowing when it got really loud, like a jet taking off loud. Mr Olajuwon did not move like a big man. Big men are powerful, but lumbering, he was quick, graceful even. People talk the dream shake, and his low post prestidigitation that gives defenders that are normally very good the goggle eyed which way did he go stumbles. All I can really say about that 1995 Western Conference Finals was how complete Hakeem played. It wasn't just being a traditional center, it was simply showing what could happen when you had the size of a center, the ball skills of a point guard, and the shooting touch of a small forward. Simply put, Hakeem put together about 4 straight years of amazing play. And if it wasn't for the Sonics and Jazz, there would have been a Dream/Jordan finals. I'd say the Rockets would have won in 1994 and 1995 in those series, but no way they'd win in the second three-peat. So take that as you will.

He could block at 6’10 and steal a ball from a 6 footer. Top 10 all time in steals and blocks. The presence itself was enough to deter a player from driving to the hoop. Ah, the good old days, when a center played like a man and not a soft woman. The game has to evolve. There is nothing wrong with a center shooting 3s, but they should still play inside first and last. Why do they have all that height for? A big man’s advantage is always inside. If Shaq became a good 3pt shooter, he’s probably not in the Hall of Fame, because he would not be the most dominant player of his error. He would not have 61 point games and rebounds, etc. I don’t care about any analytics, but it says more about these so called “Big Men” than anything else. It’s like they are turning into women who are afraid of contact, and the WNBA’s centers plays a man’s game down low. No one irks me more than Marc Gasol’s weak game.

Two greatest Houston Pro Athletes was Earl Campbell and Hakeem Olajuwon. Not only incredible athletes but very modest about their accomplishments.

I think robinson froze. He didn't know how to guard dream. Dream bombarded consistent jump shots like from a video game.

5:00 To show you where, when and how I grew up: Born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American (showing HOW I grew up). It's not like finishing second to PRIME David Robinson in the MVP voting is anything to sneeze at!

As a Dream fan I thank Moses for taking him under his wing after he was a rather uncoordinated freshman. Really took it to the next level after that and never looked back. R.I.P. Moses.

Two words: Barbeque Chicken 🙈 David Robinson ain't know what hit him! I was waiting for someone to say "why they didn't just put Rodman on him!?🤷🏾♂️ Don't kid yourself here Rodman was one of the best defenders of all time but Hakeem was a transcending player at his position he could move like a point guard and shoot like a 2 guard, and oh by the way he was 7ft with length. Believe me Rodman probably was asked to take on the job at some point early in the series and he most likely rejected that offer. He knew well enough that Hakeem was going to embarrass David Robinson and he didn't want no parts of that!
