I know this video is from a while ago. But I recently purchased a 94 YJ with 115,000 miles, it was being used to pull a plow for gardens. After replacing 2 injectors, repairing the brakes and cleaning it up doing paint touch ups I am super impressed with it last of the true Jeeps

🤦🤦🤦.... why dude Mopar is trash and I have a Jeep and I hate it it's got the inline 6 so it never dies and then every 50,000 Mi or 100,000 Mi the f****** transmission blows..... and I'm f****** sick of it but then I'm stuck with it because it's so cheap and easy to work on and easy to repair that I end up fixing it cuz I have to I will never ever buy Dodge Ford Jeep or Chrysler for me it's really Toyota or nothing they got Tacomas that are hitting the million mile mark on stock Transmissions the forerunners are absolutely Bulletproof and the same thing with the Tacomas and the Tundras if you want to be doing something crazy with your vehicle.

Video very nicely done - a nice mix of trail audio, tasteful music and voice. Geared more to the audience than most offroad vids with manic music and camera operators yelling and laughing in the mic.

I have a 1993 YJ. Have had it 10 years now and have had no major issues yet. Radiator, exhaust alt and water pump. It is a 2.5, little under powered but holds its own off road. Have done about 5 to 6k in upgrades. It is still a little tank after a total of 200k miles. Love the old ones and not afraid of putting in dents and scratches. Something I would not do on a 40 or 50k Jeep.

I know im Super late but I absolutely love the jeep YJ, my dad's dad had one and gave it to my dad but he didn't take care of it and after a couple of years it stoped working and sat in the drive way for 13 years under a tree, I didn't get to rusty because the tree was big and covered it from the rain. I saw it every day when I was coming back from school and I just loved the shape of it and the headlights. So I asked him if I could have it, he said if I fixed it I could have it so I said yes of course. I fixed it and it's the best car I've ever had, I use it every day and I love it.

Used to have a 95 too, 4" lift (2" body & 2" suspension) packin some mean ass 35's. Stripped the interior and put a bikini top, aint nothing better than riding around in that bad boy, sold it though, got a Comanche. Still deciding if it was worth it...

I have a '92 YJ with the works. On the worst of days, I can still manage a smile on my face as soon as I get in it. You really have to take advantage of using it off-road several times a month to make it worth it. It's not a practical daily driver. But 4 to 6 hours of mud, rocks, or snow every other Saturday and an overnighter in the high country every 6 weeks sure is therapeutic! For those of you tempted to buy a YJ, I have one small suggestion. Think about getting a Cherokee (XJ) for longer wheelbase, more room for gear/dogs/passengers, and find one with a Dana44 in the rear. Whether XJ or YJ, try to buy it stock and build it up so you can do it right and learn as you go. That's how you learn how things work, how to do your own repairs on the trail and how to make sure you have the spare parts and tools you need. As others have stated in these comments...air down the tires, disconnect the sway bar, remove the track bars; you will be amazed at the difference in comfort and performance. Yes, I will have a JK one day but not until my son is old enough to take over the YJ.

Great job Tommy, I love watching your Diff-Lock videos with your buddies! I my self have a 1987 YJ but I have to disagree with ya on the 4.0 vs 4.2. I gotta go with the 4.2/258 because anyone with a set of tools can fix those engines and give them a tune up in the garage. While fuel injection is nice, if somethings breaks I "personally" like to know how to fix it. Again thats just my opinion but to each their own! Keep the videos coming!

You guys are wrong about the gear ratios. It's probably the fact you have big tires and haven't regeared. Many other Jeep auto such as the 42RLE and AW4 have similar if not the same ratio as the 32RH for gears 1-3. They are not to far apart.

I had a 1995 with the 2.5 in it and it was solid as a rock. Very dependable all the way to 174k then swapped it out for a bigger engine. I always wished I had rebuilt it and put it back in and kept it that way. Very cheap and dependable. Not a torque monster but was good on fuel and loved the low range combo.

I had my Jeep YJ for six years, and I still love it. I don't think I will replace it with any other car. Yes, it's stocky, aggressive, very bumpy and not really fast to accelerate, but I could come up with few ideas that made it better... I installed thinner and longer leaf springs, and replaced the stock oil shocks with modern air shocks, so it drives smoother.. and I installed a turbo charger so it accelerates better

also for jeeps, if your looking to buy used, be incredibly careful of trucks from the salt belt. there is a huge issue of jeeps of all ages "accept galvanized versions maybe, haven't seen one in person yet. but, of the back of the frame right before it curves up around the back wheels there is no drainage for the frame, so water/salt tends to sit in there and do its business. i've seen many beautiful looking jeeps that have had to have that whole section cut out and rewelded on just so you could safely drive down a freshly paved street. I was fooled once by going to look at a 2004 TJ and that area in the frame and up on the firewall were flakes of rust coming off rendering the jeep damn near useless, even though the add said "spotless". so if your buying make sure you know where the jeep has spent most of its life, if its along the ocean with high humidity for most of its life.. just steer clear of it. cant speak for the jks.

As a newbie jeep owner, this might be a dumb question, but can you use a high lift jack to change a tire, too? Or is it just for recovery? My 2007 Sahara came with one of those little POS black screw-type Jack's. I need something better, and if I can get all my needs met with a high-lift, I think it would be worth the investment.

Great video, thank you. I recently bought a '96 Wrangler (when I say recently, I mean 5 months ago; and when I say '96, I mean '95, since there was an intermittent year when the square lights changed to retro round lights), and I am loving it. It just goes absolutely everywhere. From the shop down the road to up the mountain trail and beyond. It is purely utilitarian and offers no creature comforts; but isn't that exactly the point? It will get you there; but just not in a hurry. You will arrive happy because you drove it; instead of simply driving it. It is the American equivalent of the British Land Rover. And that is the best compliment ever.

Why not an automatic please explain? (I love manual sports cars) but dont enjoy the slow rolling through gears in larger vehicles and would much prefer to enjoy the ride without worrying about shifting because it's not as fun.

I had the 5 speed manual with a small lift and 33" tires. Same color Sahara. No rust. Wish I still had it. I keep looking for it. I customized the interior for rainy days with the hardtop off.

Hey Tommy - love your Jeep videos. I've always wondered why you bought the JK Sport S? Did you just want an upgrade? I just bought my first Jeep - a '16 Rubicon - and your vids were very helpful and influential. Thanks!

Interested in more info about an automatic...my son is turning 16 soon and I'd like to get him one. While teaching him to use a straight is not an issue I like the idea of the convenience of an automatic. He will do some off road driving - we own a horse farm on a river and he drives on the farm. Thanks for any input.

You should be getting pretty good articulation but you have to take off your track bars and off road disconnect your sway bar.
