@@Bartonovich52 There's almost this wired sub-generation of us Gen Z kids that were born 1999-2002, are too young to remember or were still unborn during 9/11, were too young to understand the issues of the late 2000s and early 2010s, and too young to fully relate to things such as Mr. Regular's '90s nostalgia. However, we're too old to fully relate much of our own generation. We grew up playing the Wii and earlier versions of Minecraft. We remember KZbin being new and the cool kid in class had an iPod touch with Angry Birds, not an iPhone X or Apple watch. We're too old to completely understand TikTok but clearly remember Vine. Our early childhood soundtrack was the tail end of alt-rock, and we remember when Ke$ha was played on the radio alongside Paramore. Most of us graduated high school in the past two or three years, and I think either the Class of 2020 or 2021 will be the last of us to graduate. I've heard this subset referred to as "Zillenials" and I'm not sure if we'll see much of a difference between us and the rest of Gen Z in the long run, but I definitely feel as though there is some kind of divide, especially when we're still so young.

Variable valve timing in subaru EJ engines (AVCS) doesn't increase flow or top-end power at high rpms at all. It's only active until around 3,000 rpm and is meant to fight turbo lag by increasing low-end torque. It was intake only until like the 2012 STi and remained intake only on the WRX until it switched off the EJ engine in 2015. ~former subaru dork.

Being born in '80, I also fell in love with many of the cars in Gran Turismo not knowing we would never get them. I just foolishly assumed that we would get the Skyline like the WRX, a few years later because of I dunno, regulations? I was so disappointed when I turned 16 and the 1980 Mercury Zephyr station wagon became my first car.

Subaru needs to bring back the format of the SG forester. 175" long, 2.5L, conventional automatic, with as much cargo space and ground clearance as a 2020 RAV4. IMO it was the pinnacle of Subaru design. A trim and relatively spacious CUV with car-like handling and really smart use of space.

I daily a 1988 Subaru Justy AWD up in Alaska. You can't tune in lightness, but you can test drive it if you ever come up this way.

Critically, we did get the GF chassis in the states. If you're looking for one, they're technically called the subaru impreza outback since the outback was a trim of the regular impreza back then. The WRX however was not an option until the next generation of impreza, so these got the 2L NA flat 4 and the impreza rs got the 2.5L flat 4. What I'm saying is, you could in theory make this car( tho left hand drive unlike the car you see in the video) if you got the right EJ(the engine) and put a turbo on it.

Here in Australia (not sure about Stateside) the WRX wagon was spun-off into its own thing a few years ago called the "Lavorg" which was just an attempt to allow middle-aged men to buy it without the destain from their wives that they were buying a WRX which still has the reputation of being a car for hoons.

I was super into Rally in highschool. I inicially wanted an evo but settled on a 1993 Subaru Impreza AWD with a 1.8l. It was slow and no rally car but I drove it like one.

Like many other JDM treasures, these go for nearly nothing in Japan. You would likely find one of these in good condition with reasonable miles for less than $2000. Keeping in mind I sat in a R33 GT-R for sale outside of Tokyo a few years back with less than 80k kilometers with an asking price of $13,000. And that was at a lot across the street from a US Air Force Base. It would have been even cheaper without the US influence nearby.

If that turbo is coming on around 5k something ain't right. Should be more like 3.5k or less. I've owned 4 of these in Canada. 2 v3 sti, 1 v6 sti, and 1 v5 wrx hatch just like this one. Sti ones make 280+HP, good cars. Use to be $5k-$9k cars all day long in immaculate condition. I'm sure Americans pay like $15k+ now for one. Which is just silly. Fun fast cars but not worth that kind of money in my books. P.S I'm also going to add that they are very reliable cars as long as you only use premium fuel there is no if and or butts about it. Actually do proper maintenance intervals and most like to drink a small amount of oil so you might need to top it up hear and there. Replace all the old vacuum lines as boost leaks are very common once they are old. And never modify the engines past an exhaust infact I'd say an Aftermarket exhaust is almost mandatory as we have way better technically now. The stock exhaust are a major chock point. Don't put an aftermarket intake on them. Makes them run lean then kaboom! And for the love of god change the spark plugs and knock sensor. Just do handling upgrades and there great. People use to daily drive them in -30c Canadian winters for years. I've had 280k kms on one of mine. So I'm sure they will run forever in more mild American weather.

Yeah, wagons are cool, and I would love to see them come back. This car is really more like a hatchback than a wagon, being pretty stubby in back. In the rest of the world there were wagons like this, but not in the US. Subaru could have called it a hatchback, but they were unfashionable in the US then, and almost all were very cheap, small cars.
