Nice work! I just replaced mine today and this video saved me a lot of grief! Thanks! I would just like to add that the torque spec on the 24mm pump bolt is 40 ft-lb (or 54 nM), per my shop manual, as I don't recall hearing that in the video. On the O ring end, which was not listed...just snugged it up by feel and no leaks (yet, anyway).

What is the crowfoot size used to install the 'new' power steering high pressure hose? Instead of the crowfoot, can a regular combination wrench be used to install the new hose?
@NutzAboutBolts2 жыл бұрын
It was a 17mm crowfoot, it’s listed in the description box. It’s recommended you use the crowfoot so it doesn’t strip the nut. So use the regular wrench at your own risk.

after this job do you drive and check fluid level or jack up front wheels and turn right to left??? if you drive it it may ruin the pump? correct..
@NutzAboutBolts9 жыл бұрын
Jeff Thompson After this job, just turn on your engine, and watch the power steering fluid reservoir to see if its low, then top it off to max and you're good to go. The only time you do a flush is when you replace the power steering pump since its dry in there, and/or when the fluid is dirty.
@xikaios172 жыл бұрын
I have the same issue but the engine block is burning all the power steering fluid, is there anyway i can wash off all the sludge off from the drippins of psf? Also can it catch on fire if i let it burn off the fluid from the engine block?
@NutzAboutBolts2 жыл бұрын
Your powersteering fluid is probably leaking somewhere in the system, it’s not burning in the engine block because the fluids go from the reservoir, to the lines, to the rack and pinion and then back to the return line and to the reservoir. As for the fluid sludge, just wash with degreaser to get it off. If there’s fluids on the block, just wash it off.

@NutzAboutBolts10 жыл бұрын
Did you change the head gasket?
@andrewduggins413210 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure its not the head gasket there is no milky color to the oil and no leaks. It burns 5 quarts a month I drive around 1500 miles so 300 miles equals 1 quart i have to put in. It has 230400 miles on it, and started around 125k.
@NutzAboutBolts10 жыл бұрын
Is the valve gasket changed? Could be oil leaking through there, also worn piston rings can cause oil to leak through and get to the tip of the spark plugs. Is all of the cylinder leaking?
@andrewduggins413210 жыл бұрын
NutzAboutBolts yeah changed the valve gasket. Probably the piston rings then, might as well just junk the car because a new engine is worth more than the car.

If you went that far , check your capacity of an empty power steering system , if your oil looks dirty, take both lines off. with the car jacked, wheels off the ground , motor off , slowly move the wheel fully, one way than the other , all the oil will come out, this way you change the fluid entire system, should have 2 people start the car, short idle runs, fill the tank a few times, other person turns the wheel back and forth , until the air is worked out, its messy but it s done. turkey pan works pretty good.............
