1998 BMW Z3 Radiator Replacement/Upgrade

My Z3 overheated on a hot day in heavy traffic after the common fan delete was done to it. In this video I replace the stock radiator with the Z3M radiator for better cooling performance. Additional components include pressure cap, expansion tank, upper hose, lower hose, overflow hose, fluids, and an upgrade to a 16" electric fan.
My first working video I struggled a little angles and equipment settings, I'll do better next time!

If you don't know what your engine temperature is after you did the fan delete this is a cheap easy way to find out and it can reset annoying check engine lights/codes. Plug and play after after setting units (mph, engine over speed alarm, engine temperature alarm, low voltage alarm) I have one of these and found my engine overheats going up a mountain road since I did the fan delete. I had the exact same thing happen to me in the drive thru, expansion tank had very similar damage with a shard poking out of it. Caused loads of smoke everywhere!

My engine overheats when going up a mountain road if the A/C is on. It does fine on level ground and doesn't need the OEM fan on. . Did the electric fan you installed solve your heating problem. If so could I have the fan brand and part number please?

Since the install I have not had any cooling issues. It is pretty flat here so it has not been up a mountain. It is warm here, around 100°F, this has been no problem when moving. When I come to a stop the upgraded fan usually kicks on, this can ve adjusted. The fan is a Spal 16" low profile with ez install kit. See here.. racegerman.com/products/16-spal-low-profile-fan

Also, if your A/C is on, at some point the oem electric fan on the front of the condesor should come on. May be worth checking that out as well.

@@driventofailure The OEM fan is operating properly. I don't have a problem in traffic on extremely hot days. Just going up the mountain. My radiator is 2 1/2 inches wide. I have 2 inches between the radiator and the engine. While driving on in the valley on the hottest days the fans shut off because they are not needed, I'm going to but a sheet of ABS plastic below the area between the front bumper and the radiator to force more air through the radiator from the oncoming wind. I think this will solve the problem

Did you get a,check engine light when you removed the secondary air pump ?

I do get one if I don't let it warm on the first start before driving off. I plan to turn off its SAP check in the calibration soon. It hasn't come on often, maybe 3 times since delete.
