1998 Dodge Ram 70-120+mph top speed run (Pegged Out)

Taking my 98 Ram out to see what this thing will do. 318 5.2 v8. Shift points were at 5600rpm. Mods: 89 oct. sct tune, shorty headers, e-fan, under drive pulley, modded throttlebody, open cutouts, 180* stat, MSD Ignition coil and wires, Autolite 3923 plugs, and Hughes plenum. Tops out at 120+ mph, I don't know what the actual top speed of it really is. Sorry about the crappy video quality.
This was done on an inclosed road in Mexico.

I don't know why people bash 318 and 360 engines....I personally have a 360 and love it only reason my check engine light is on is due to a bad O2 sensor..... great towing capabilities. Its no diesel but for a half ton it suprised me. Worst engine dodge ever had imo was the v10 magnum. But even it too had its strengths. The 318 and 360 are just as good as a chevy 350 if not better.

TheRedneckmojo I'm a Chevy guy always will be I hauled 2 tons of gravel in the bed of my Chevy k2500 4x4 short bed at that and it didn't start to squat till it hit 2 tons, I have a 01 RAM sport 4x4 I love this truck looks mean and yeah it has it issues but there getting worked out just replaced the tranny but I did alot of dirt hauling with a tilt trailer with about 4 tons of in the dump trailer pulling it up hill on dirt and grass to get where I was dumping it but never let me down, next I gotta get a new fuel pump just deciding which one to go with, then I'm gonna rebuild the steering set up to a custom setup for off-road with hiem joints so I don't have to worry about a tire rod

The magnum 318 is a very underrated engine. I have a 1999 ram 1500 regular cab sb with the 318 it'll hit 135mph all day long. The transmissions are weak though 😅 its on its 3rd one now. Eventually its gonna get a built trans and limited slip rear-end

I have most of these mods on my 99 5.2. I had terrible spark knock, actually thought I might have lost a couple rockers. I swapped to the 3923 plugs and problem solved! They only used a hotter plug from the factory for emissions.

I just ordered the max enentgy power programmer for my 97 dodge cuz mine shuts off at 115 so ill be able to take the speed limiter off and put the tune on it but sucks cuz for my model I cant change the shift points but o well I have a cold air intake on mine a exhast and performance coil pack so far but ive only had the truck a week lol.. did changing the spark plug wires to msd help any ?

My stock 5.9 was electronically limited to 115 mph. And the only way to get there was to lock out overdrive miss that damn truck. Stock they aren’t wining any races these day modern trucks will walk it but what a great sounding reliable torque monster of an engine!

you do know you produce more low end with cutouts open but top end you want ur cutout closed.. cutouts open is raw torque and low speeds. 50-60 on you want it closed it will pull better up top

Why did yours rev to 5600rpm? peak hp is at like 4400, so revving past 4500 is useless.... Also, this video shows exactly how crappy our trucks are for speed. Once you're past 95-100, it takes an ETERNITY to climb higher.

Mike Barton But he says 87 octane SCT tune. I have a few of those same mods and a 91 octane SCT tune, and mine bumped up just to 5100rpm. He must've had it custom flashed to do that. Until you change the intake manifold (the primary choker of these motors), revving past 5K is pointless. Manifold chokes the motor too much even with top end mods bc the manifold won't allow the flow. Also, just was following a dyno tuner today on FB as he did step by step trial and error tuning with the "kegger mod", and made LESS peak torque and horsepower, and only 5hp and 8 torque in some places, after many, many tuning attempts. Basically the kegger just belongs in the trash. Chokes the motor badly, and even modded is no good, and has the ticking time bomb plenum gasket problem.

My dog got under my truck and chewed up a bunch of wires I didn't have my shift sensor on my transmission both of my O2 sensors and a couple of other sensors I have no clue what they are called and no oil on the dipstick And that son of a b**** still got me to work and back for 3 days lol I love my 01 ram ... Does anyone know when you're hooking up your O2 sensor you have a black wire a gray wire that obviously go together then you're left with two white wires does it matter which ones you put together cuz I got all my wires put back together and everything runs fine now transmission is Shifting out perfect again but my check engine light is on but it's not throwing any codes...???

It’s up to normal operating temperature I know because I own the same truck the temp gauge doesn’t have to be at top dead center for it to be at operating temp

my 5.9 was smoked today by a 2011 altima i got so pissed that my ram could not pull away from that little ricer. i got to about 105 and it just did not wanna go that much faster (did the limiter kick in?). what are some things that i should mod so that wont happen again. should i buy a chip for it (kinda expensive) or reprogram pcm? i have iridium plugs and dual exhuast from the muffler back. it is automatic but that should not have anything to do with it not being able to push 105. please help

jake curran Truck transimissions dont like being in overdrive under heavy stress. thats why theres an option to turn it off. it does slow it down too. i could make it to 115 stock, but if i did in in overdrive it stopped at like 95
