I had to put a tank in my 1998 f150 a year ago it was an amazing good time. It seem like no matter what kind of eye protection you use you'll still get rust in your eyes.

Thanks for this. I’ll be doing this job very soon. I have an 03 F150 with a fair amount of rust also (New England) and my goal is to keep it on the road for as many miles as I can. Good opportunity while the tank is out to wire wheel and spray on some rust converter/paint. Hopefully that’ll keep her going longer.

WOW. Actually this is a great video because I live in Maine and I've got a 2002 f150 that's leaking from the top ,I don't know exactly where, that's going to have to be done. I was filling the tank to 80% and getting by with no smell but now I've got a p0442 code so the holes getting bigger and I don't want to wait till winter. I 've replaced a few ford tanks and fuel pumps and I think the best part is having to look up to see what you're doing while an avalanche of dirt , rust. rocks and clumps of whatever else has accumulated falls into your eyes, ears, hair and down your neck. I'm hoping my fuel lines fittings are'nt crammed with dirt per usual. The video is very helpful as I was actually wondering just exactly how each sensor released so thanks a lot because that's really going to help. My trucks undercarraige is actually in much better shape than that one and I've sprayed it with fluid film since I owned it so fingers crossed. My last ford was a 96 and I needed to replace the fuel pump. I took one look at the whole assembly and I got my measuring tape out and cut a hole in the bed where I determined the fuel pump was, removed and replaced it , made a perfect patch for the bed and drove it for 4 more years. If I lose the pump on this one I will repeat. These are normal things you do when coping in the rust belt. Thanks again for the video.

Thanks for the great video. Entertaining. I'm not sure I'd have attempted this on my 2000 F-150 without watching this. My Western NY truck is even rustier. And yes, I broke the pressure sensor, too, but it was only 20 bucks on Ebay. It was either tank replacement or junkyard, but now my truck lives to rust another day.

I just found your channel after years on KZbin, and I love the sarcasm towards the rusty junk, it’s a crock of crap the way these vehicles rust out so bad, the way you tell it like it is makes it a blast to watch you:) I live in the rust belt and I have always owned used old rusty crap so I feel your pain when working on them. It didn’t matter the make of the vehicle they all were rusted junk, Detroit’s best. I work outside in the dirt with Jack stands and it’s always a blast, you figure I’d learn by now being over 60 yrs old, but I just keep buying the rusty crap, I now for the past 8 years use fluid film for undercoating so my cars last longer so I don’t have to buy another vehicle every 4 to 5 years:) After watching this video of yours I laughed so hard at your comments that I instantly subscribed, keep it up you are an inspiration:)

I didnt have time for it. Bought a tank and straps, sent it to a shop. “$355” , all labor steep, but okay 6 hours later “We broke this this this and this, your new bill is $583, cool?” that pressure sensor is about $125 . if you source it out yourself before you buy an auto service tank replacement, you can save a lot of money.
@TheTarrMan3 жыл бұрын
@@psychedelicbdsm7301 Guess I saved $355 then, lol. Can't blame you for having a shop do it though. Seems simple enough but it took me about 3 hours.

I need to do this same job. I have all the tools i think but, (1) I don't have any lifts and (2) gasoline has been slowly seeping through the bottom of the tank and it's kind of saturated so now I'm afraid to cause an explosion lol. I'm thinking I'll just buy the next tank, straps, sensor, and bolts/nuts for remounting and have it towed to a shop and let them deal with it
@adamschwarz13883 жыл бұрын

Couple of comments: I don't think there was anything wrong with the aftermarket strap. Look closely at video at 12:29 - the longer bolt hits the underside of the bed channel preventing any further lightening. Also, bending the tabs to secure the rear plastic cover was not cheating. Those tabs are meant to be bent down, tabs comes out of the factory bent down.

Every manufacturers model is based solely on planned obsolescence, and providing a life of service in order to retain posession of the vehicle, for its relatively short life. Then the process repeats, so the victim can continue to be traumatized, and taxed by a consumer based economy.
