I was at this race. Was in one of the grandstands on the 2nd corner. The amount of Ferrari fans that got up & left when M Schumacher crashed was unreal. Has got to be one of the best weekends of my life. Weather was amazing & Montreal is a lovely city. Thank you for bringing so many memories back to me.

I found 1999 to be the best season I've ever watched. So that must have been quite an experience.

Yup, I was 5 rows up on T-13: Hill a surprise, Schuf - pressured by Pannis in Prost T-13; early, late, wall of champions (excellent) Shuf.- crosses live track car with wing hanging on somehow also crosses over LIVE track? WTF was my thought on that. "eat your words my friends"MWalker 🦫JV, DC,HHF all that sucked ass.

I was there too, sweating as if I was sitting in a sauna, sitting in the grandstands in front of the hairpin (east side). The year before, I had watched free practice on Friday wearing a sweatshirt and a windbreaker because it was quite cold.

The hidden best part of this is the lack of commentary when they go to commercial but the producers are still filming the race, and so you get a few minutes of awesome shots of the cars and just the sounds of the race. It happens at least half a dozen times. Great race.

Great upload Ciaron, many thanks. I recall that Frentzen was often the designated onboard camera used on the terrestrial channel's that year and there were some nice shots too, like him completing the pass on Fisichella and then blowing past the lapped Badoer later that lap on the back straight, along with Murray's excited commentary🙂

1999: 1:19:298 2024: 1:12:000 in qua, but the from 1999 looks faster despite the time difference. I miss the good old F1 days and also miss the sound from these engines ☺️🏎️

That 1999 Ferrari looks stronger than the 2000 one, Schumi maybe winning more comfortably if not for his crash and brake leg

My buddies and i put out a racing paper from Watkins Glen for a few years called Instant Replay. This was the first race in a few years we didnt get press passes. The guy next to me kept waving his Hakkinen flag which kept waving into me,but we let it slide when he said he was from Finland and worked for Nokia in Montreal, I actually proposed an ad lib technical observation of the race award with my buddies. I mentioned that Frentzens brake bias was not right because he kept locking up his fronts at corner entry, Later we found out he crashed hard when his rotor exploded so I guess I won lol!! GREAT city and race make sure you go sometime!!

The way they took Schumacher’s car out of the track while only on yellow flags is surreal compared to modern F1

And they kept Damon Hill's car there as well! If this happened in, let's say, Qatar 2024, lots of drivers would be given a 10-second stop-and-go penalty 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Few races I watch everytime. Canada is one of them bc over all those years it were always iconic races there and the circuit is one of the last where you must not make mistakes without a realistic risk getting hurt.

Yes, this race is pretty much the reason the wall is called that.

Yeah. Out of all those who have crashed into that wall; Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher, and Jacques Villenueve were victims of that wall and because they were all World Champions at one point or another that's when the Canadian Grand Prix called that wall coming off of 14 "The Wall of Champions"

@@zanemarte9877 All 3 of them were already champions by 1999, that's why the wall got it's nickname. Also notable that this race was the first F1 race to finish behind the safety car, thanks to the wall of champions...

I think the real question of this race what if Frentzen wouldn't receive brake failure as there would be a nice 3-way battle for second as despite Irvine flying on last stint as I won't think that Fisi or HHF would give position to him easily, especially on closing stage as they're battling themselves. Schumi hitting the wall while on huge lead is quite a bonehead move from him. And picture of Hill's Jordan being on track is something that wouldn't fly today. Also that was a nice comment from Murray (don't know if was recorded in this video) that 98-99 cars had all downforce and no grip as good to see just how it was as much complains as we see now (personally 98-08 cars were the best looking).

Mac and Ferrari are fighting. Williams and Sauber are always there. Stewart became Red Bull. BAR Honda became Mercedes. Benetton became Alpine. Minardi became whatever, Visa Cash App RB in 2024.
