My dad, used to have one, a 99 saloon variation(learnt to drive in it at 14) . I sometimes check auto trader if one is for sale as I wouldn't mind one as my first car 😎, very good video 👍🏻

Good review. Decent old survivor, pleasant if anonymous machine which should last for many more years under sympathetic ownership. I would be happy to use it regularly.

Had one the same colour as a taxi for years, Renault diesel engine. I loved it, totally reliable and a very comfortable car to spend the day in

I got the 2003 edition about a year ago as my first car. It works nicely but I definitely want to upgrade to something more modern. The headlights are also fogged up and really weak so I've avoided driving it when it's dark cause you can't see anything in front of you haha

My former landlady from South Africa had one they are very reliable she offered me it for £500 but i could not get insured sadly as it was a powerful car , I did own its baby brother a 2007 Colt 1.1 and they are surprisingly very fast 0-60 in 10 seconds and 120mph top speed if you had a long enough motorway like M40 to Oxford lol

The car named after what it was lacking😂. I wrote my first master thesis at the company that developed this and the S/V40. I never liked the Carisma, very easy but totally unengaging drive. On the GDI the idle goes down to 450rpm after 10 seconds or so when warm. Therefore it needs a blip of the throttle before you drive off to prevent it bogging down. Little known maybe is that the S/V40 was also available with this engine, which was badged as the "1.8i" (opposed to the Volvo 1.8 which was badged as "1.8"), with exactly the same GDI logo on the engine cover. It didn't idle so low and I found it better to drive, in the Volvo this engine was very quiet.

interesting, yeah I recall the Volvo variant at the time, but don't think it was that popular.

My first car was blue but it was sedan 99' which looks better. I found a UNIQUE Carisma GDI on sell this week in my country Turkey, It has 165HP from factory. A engine that was on Mitsubishi Dion. It has low mileage, I'm considering to buy it. My old '99 Carisma GDI burned a lot of oil tho. But it never let me down on the road.

My workplace had a bland LX 1.8 GDI for a short while…almost identical to the video. Didn’t know what it was at the time. But once I had driven it down the motorway a few times, I certainly knew the advantage of GDI by then….way more economical than other petrol 1.8 engines (I had a 1.8 Astra at the time). Very very dull but easy to drive. Didn’t think it was especially quick tbh….just “average”.

Drove one back in the day as I really liked the look of it - I don't like to stand out. Found the seats really uncomfortable, weirdly short in the leg, them not me 😂

Bought one years ago as a stopgap. Not a car you could ever love but had to respect the reliability

One of my colleagues at work had one back in the 90’s. It was a throughly competent, utterly forgettable car 😂 Used to think Mitsubishi gave it that name just to attract attention to it - even if it was to ridicule the choice 😂

@@ahmedislam2580Ton of parts are interchangeable. Both made in Born, the Netherlands. I just renewed one and I had to buy s40 parts from sweden cause I couldn't find new Mitsu parts like evaporator or radiator... Also the v40 came with the same 1.8 GDI engine too.

@@ahmedislam2580 The GDI was the one Mitsubishi engine that was available in the S/V40! Quite different cars in terms of driving experience, the Volvo being much better imho, but at a higher price point.
