What a great match from Davenport. Graf was sluggish after her Herculean effort to beat both Williams sisters.

Even if Graf wasn't sluggish after her two matches with Serena and Venus, I would still give an edge to Davenport when you consider both the surface and what stages they were at in their respective careers.

The only two players to beat both Williams sisters and win the tournament ever were Sanchez Vicario and Henin I believe. And Sanchez beat them in the last 2 matches, so did not have to follow beating another. Henin did but it was over her pigeon Kuznetsova (3-18 lifetime vs Henin) and in her best year ever so full of confidence.
