Absolute best on the Web! Now retired after too many years in the trade, (some years ago) this is the best example of a complete integral brake system plus parking shoe overhaul I have seen. Still do my own work when I can, and very pleased I watched this first, as I have never worked on my wife's (mint) 2010 Hyundai Elantra Sport. A most comprehensive repair. I would hire him today! Perhaps anyone non-mechanical watching this will appreciate why their complete brake job left little change from $2000! You get a good idea of the problems the guy doing the work probably had to overcome.

Thanks Len,it’s nice to see a repair that’s not too “easy peesy” ,more life like. I’ve got an 8inch wheel puller which at times when necessary has never let me down. I’ve never replaced those type of brake shoes before so thanks again. Love your videos,Lester from Canada

1A Auto is the best publisher of tutorials for DIY mechanics. Professional photography with clear and sharp videos, zooming on the very subject being demonstrated. The explaplanations are abundant and repetitive about safety (a must). It is also exceptionally instructive as they always present a worst-case scenario, which do-it-yourselvers always seem to be confronted with. Keep it up guys, and thank you!

Thank you so much for including the parking break adjustment! I swear this is like the only video that covered it because every other video didn’t bother when the rotor came off easily.

To the credit of the good, conscientious brake mechanic, I have in the past had the attitude you might at more times than not kind of stretched these jobs. Not now. After doing countless brake jobs on my vehicles, hats off to you guys, your worth more than gold,Lester from Canada (Sorry for giving you a bad rap)

Good video of how to replace the ebrake shoe. BUT.... I would have backed off the cable adjustment nut that is under the bottom of the removable panel in the center consul. Most likely it would have relaxed the cable to allow removal of the drum without the torch. That said the entire rear axle is pretty rusty.

I found attaching the hold down spring outside of the hub was the best way, attach top return spring to both shoes, then hold down springs, then the bottom spring and finally the adjuster. If you live in the rust belt, then removing the bearing will probably not help as it will be seized to the backing plate and because of the reluctor ring will not be able to be pounded apart. I must say, that whoever designed this system needs a good swift kick in the nuts.

I'm replacing the rear pads, rotors and brake shoes. When I install the new brake shoes the rotor will barely fit back on and is hard to turn. I've backed out the adjustment screw all the way and tried removing and reinstalling the brake shoes several times but they are still super tight on both sides. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

Next time you oil all the brakes shoe inside, then rotate the drum brake to spread all the oils, when all the oil is un the brake shoe it is easy to remove the drum brakes.. Then you can clean all the oils with a brake cleaner or you will replace the brake pads anyways

I did this on my 2010 Kia Forte Koup. Super pain in the azz. Wheel hubs don’t have holes either which made it harder. Also way more springs. I was swearing and yelling at the top of my lungs in my driveway.

I bought my 2008 Elantra new & although it's always been a good car, that "drum built into the rotor" parking brake system is a rotten design. 😕 Incidentally, my Hyundai has 325,000 miles on it & I'm only just now replacing the original, factory rear brake pads. 😮 The front brake pads have been replaced once & still have about 30% life left. 💪🏻 🇺🇸
