WOW! My best friend (30F) and I (31F) have never done anything more serious than change a tire on a car. We watched your video about 80 times and we did it! It took us 3 hours but we completed each step. We didn't take the belt off either, we actually removed the bolts and changed the thermostat from the bottom because we couldn't reach them from the top as we were both too short. Thank you!!

Thank you for the video....you are the only one I found that could help me with my 05 liberty and I couldn't have done it without watching this. However, I saw no need to remove the belt for room....especially if you are one with no experience like me. With a ratchet extension that's 4 or so inches long it is relatively easy to get to the screws. I was able to get it done today with no issues. Thanks again!!!

Clear and concise for what it explains, but for us amateurs out here, getting the grill off, the metal frame that goes on top of the radiator, getting the cowl off and how about the fan? All these steps have to be performed before you get to the stage you start your video at. Its incomplete

Great video, but I would like to add that the 2012 Liberty or any with the electric fan is an entirely different procedure. The coolant reservoir and washer tank combo, sit right in front, on top of the fan shroud and the procedure would be different.

I was noticing that the engine has an electric fan. Do all Liberties have electric fans from the factory. I worked on one that had a belt driven fan and fan clutch. Granted, it did have a rather improvised look to it. But, it was put in very nicely.

Did this yesterday in about ten minutes (including stops to sip my beer). No need to remove the pulley, just use a 1/4" rachet with an extender and an 8mm socket. Thank you for the video though it was informative. Also when adding new fluid I simply remove the upper hose and filled the radiator with a bit of undiluted Mopar coolant, then added water to top it off. Replaced the upper hose then did the same coolant/water in the resevoir. Ran the engine with the heat on and kept topping off the resevoir tank for a few minutes then cap it and drive it around the block. I did this as a general maintenance item since I was already replacing the water pump at 138,000 on an '05 Liberty Limited 3.7L.

I know this might be a long shot but if you respond I’ll be so grateful. I have a 2007 Jeep Liberty automatic transmission. For the past few months I have been dealing with an on and off P0430. I will drive the vehicle a while like a week or sometimes it varies, and the light goes away but the code remains So far I have tried cataclean, and I replaced down stream bank 2 o2 sensor.. drove the truck until the monitors all showed complete with no check engine light and no codes when I scanned it. Next morning, it was pretty chilly out as it’s winter and I live in the Pacific Northwest, drove to work and the check engine light came on, scanned it when I got to work and had the P0430 and a new p0128. Followed the steps to your video and I went ahead and did my thermostat and upper and lower radiator hose. Did a complete drain and fill in my garage and burped and bled the system. Waiting for my drive cycles to complete before I know anything more but.... do you have ANY suggestions? Thank you for your time I really appreciate all of your Jeep Liberty videos.

How do you relate your cooling system to your cat problem? I don't know, but ignoring the cooling thing, you just need a new (or used) cat in bank 2. But if your cat exit is hotter than your inlet, and if your exhaust pressure (test with a gage) is < 3 psi upstream of the cat, at the o2 sensor No. 1 hole, you might pass emissions if you can get the light to stay off, which can be accomplished by rigging a constant 0.8 dcV signal and sending it to where the o2 sensor is supposed to go, instead of the o2 signal. This will not affect your engine operation because the second sensor is only there to monitor cat health. But most likely, you just need to replace the bank 2 cat. Don't try to follow my advice as a recipe to success, just let it give you some ideas as you research and continue to troubleshoot for yourself. Because with cats and some other issues, it's really hard to tell without getting right into bed with them yourself.

At 6:23 they say while running engine , use 8mm Allen Bit ( known as HEX bit) to unscrew and open up the Coolant Bleeder Valve. This will release all the excess air. THE ENGINE NOISE HERE MADE IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO HEAR THESE IMPORANT INSTRUCTIONS. This is the same clip they use for the Jeep Liberty WATER PUMP install video.

Do you have to put the heat on high when bleeding the coolant? Thanks. Always love the videos and have ordered parts from 1AAuto as well.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Dennis. Yes you have to put the heat on high to properly bleed all of the air out of the system. Without turning the heat on high, air pockets can potentially be trapped in the heatercore itself, or one of the coolant lines for the heater core. Hope this helps! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Hey, I got my thermostat but when I put it on and screw it back on the housing was leaking from the bottom screw area. What did I do wrong? I cant tighten the screw anymore.. how hard do you push the thermostat into housing. Should it be stuck really good in there ?
@scottscoville1118
@scottscoville1118 4 жыл бұрын
This is the problem I had to begin with. My thermostat worked fine but I was losing coolant rapidly because of a drip from this thermostat seal, and regardless of where it blows by, around the seal, it drips out at the bottom screw after flowing in the crack around the outside of the interface. My seal looks fine. I supposed a fresh fat seal on a new thermostat would fix the problem till I saw your post. If a new seal doesn't work, soaking the old one on both sides in blaster might help, and also I might try cutting out one or two circles from gasket material to place by the seal. Yes, you do want to make sure your seal keeps its shape when tucked all the way deep into the plastic neck recess. As in the video, DO NOT try to place the thermostat onto the engine side and then screw down the plastic neck over it. One more possibility - make sure the threaded hole for the bottom screw is not choked with white sediment to where it can't screw down far enough to properly clamp the plastic neck.

For those who choose to remove the tensioner, take note that it is reverse threaded. You can see in the video but it would have been helpful to mention this. You can easily strip that bolt otherwise and then you’ll really have a job on your hands

@ Casey McAllister Unless I’m reading you wrong, he went counter-clockwise when removing the tensioner bolts. What do you mean when you say that “it” is reverse threaded? What’s reverse threaded? Are you saying that the tensioner mount bolts thread counter-clockwise to tighten, and clock-wise to loosen? If so, it appears, to me at least, that the opposite is true, that is, clock-wise to tighten, and counter-clockwise to loosen. Maybe I’m missing you altogether.

Replaced the water pump in my buddies Grand Cherokee. Filled the rad and ran it for a long while. Didn't seem to take much coolant. He started home and it started overheating. I'm thinking that his thermostat might be stuck closed. Also....it is possible that there is an air lock happening? It just seems like it isn't getting any anti-freeze through the motor. Also, if you add anything other than GO5 coolant will it gum up the motor?

My 2004 Jeep Liberty is overheating. Especially when I'm sitting if traffic, the gauge is almost on H (Hot). A couple of things I've checked. The radiator fan is turning and I can see coolant, which is fairly new, flowing back into the reservoir from a return hose. What do you think is the problem? Ngl.. i hate working on jeeps, but they look cool, and they drive good when running. (Currently doing the googlefu for a nice guy customer) also im from Australia :/ so jeeps dont have the greatest rep her.. but... i do like the coilpack tubes being part of the plastic inlet manifold... helps when a coilpack goes bad.. harder to diagnose lol.. also I love how easy the last two cylinders on the rhb are super easy to access due to the overflow bottle. Super great.. but most acess points on that block are not a complete dick to get to honestly. So not the worst ive worked on :) thanks for your vid btw mate :) helped me a lot.

When opening up the bleeder valve, do you just keep it cracked open until you have no air bubbles coming out at all?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Cracking the Bleeder allows any trapped air pockets to be let out. You keep it cracked until bubbles are no longer coming out. Hope this helps. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Wth! You don't have to take the belt off. It's not even close to being in the way. Just use an 8mm to take the housing off. This guy is making it harder than it needs to be.

Having a problem getting heat in my 2003 Jeep Liberty. I have listened for the movement of the doors to allow air flow to change from hot or cold and I can hear them moving and I do get airflow but I am not getting any heat. Could this be the thermostat or is it something else? Car does not have a problem with overheating or running hot.

Might have the thermostat stuck open or missing. If it's stuck open it won't over heat but also won't get hot enough to push heat to the cabin.

Ugh, I'm fighting that bleeder valve. It's really stuck in there quite well! And of course, it's the last thing I need to do and it's fighting me while the sun is setting. Well, back to the good fight!

My wife's liberty was really low on coolant. I refilled it and now the heater only blows hot when the car is moving. is that likely air in the system or a thermostat?

Fixing the same problem right now on my wife's liberty, You are low on coolant, that is why it only blows while moving, (hours of research) when I refilled coolant it blew hot while idling. I am right now replacing the radiator because I discovered a leak on the top right of the radiator (only when running). This is also a common problem on jeeps. I ordered a replacement radiator and thermostat from Amazon for $90.oo total. If you have to replace the radiator, you should replace thermostat also, just a lot easier to get to. Best of luck to you.

No need to remove belt or belt tensioner. Also no need to drip radiator. But just my opinion

Why the need to remove other components and drain the coolant from radiator? Oh I see. So the shop can charge more for parts and labor hours.

I don't get that last step. Loosen that allen bolt so the coolant starts coming out? And then do you tighten it back up?
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 8 жыл бұрын
When you do this repair, you're opening up the cooling system which introduces air into what should normally be a sealed system. So what we're doing in that last step is bleeding the air out of of the system. You run the car till it reaches operating temperature, then loosen up that bleeder screw till the coolant starts to leak out. The bubbles you see are the air being forced out of the system. Be sure to check your coolant level periodically while you do this to make sure it doesn't run down. Once there are no more bubbles coming out, and it's just a solid flow of coolant, you know all the air is out and you can tighten it back down. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com?KZbin&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
