On reinstall tighten the pulley center bolt 🔩 to 70 ft the balancer on the crankshaft moved from compression stroke mark. Is that okay in order to get 70 ft Torque on center bolt 🔩? I hope you can respond to my question... Thanks...

Great video, just a couple of follow up notes: -There is a very good chance that you will have to remove the first 6-8 oil pan bolts to get the cover out. It is rare that the cover comes out without doing this, as it seals to the oil pan. -On the same subject, look at your oil pan gasket where it seals to the timing cover. A lot of these trucks have had their oil pan gasket replaced, and usually with a FelPro brand gasket. The FelPro gasket is one piece, and is quite thick where the oil pan seals to the timing cover. In this case, you would not want that massive bead of silicone in there. Just clean the one piece gasket very well with brake clean, and then put a decent sized spot of silicone on each corner of the timing cover where the oil pan lips seals to it. -I would strongly recommend using red Loctite or the special locking fastener the aftermarket offers to keep the 3 cam gear bolts tight. Not necessary, but why take the chance of them loosening up. -Use thread sealant or Teflon tape on all 4 water pump to block bolts, or they will leak. -Lastly, you might change the chain only to find that the engine runs rough/doesn’t start, or the computer sets a P1345 Cam/crank correlation code. This can happen if the vehicle was retimed at any point while the chain was loose. If so you will need the engine retimed with a scan tool. Great video though, and good luck with your repairs everyone.

Hey there, good comments. I can't find any good videos on how to do the timing correctly with a timing light. Specifically where the dam cable is for the auto timing to the ecu, that needs to be disconnected first. Any suggestions or links you have would be awesome. Thank you. 1997 K1500 5.7l vortec

Nice step by step video! I'll be doing the same on my 96 Astro. 230K miles and not running to well per timing issues. I assume the chain must have some bad slack. Adding my 2 cents, I see you added a new water pump on the re-assembly. Loosening the bolts on the water pump pulley would probably been easier (for those who don't have an air ratchet or impact wrench) before taking off the serpentine belt. Also, the same for the crankshaft pulley as well. Cleaning the gasket residue around the water pump jackets and the timing chain on the block first would probably been easier before adding the new chain set. Other than that, awesome and most detailed video I've seen on youtube! Thanks!

I usually replace the balacer at this time also, when fixing the cover, install the balancer enough to centre itself in the seal, secure the timing cover bolts you can reach, then pull the damper off again to alpply final torque to timing chain cover - it is sometimes necessary to test the crank pos sensor clearance toshaft as the cover may be shifted slightly from centring seal to shaft. Spacers can be added to sensor to increase clearance.

Good video, thank you. What was the torque on the three crank pulley bolts? What was identified as an oil slinger, is the crank sensor reluctor ring. Clean the timing cover gasket surface, and water pump gasket surface as soon as the timing chain and gears are removed or, prior to installing the timing chain/gears and timing cover. Makes it easier to access those surfaces without those items being installed.

NO, it does not slide on that tight, just clean the crank nose a little with sandpaper or cloth and it will slide on.

This is not the first time this set has been changed the original set was a dubble row chain and I had to drop the pan , if you use the factory type of plastic cover you can use the better set of gears of you use the Holley aluminum cover with a replable seal You need a thin set like this one or single row chain. I do mine a little different I take a old dampener and cut the shaft off and use it to aline the cover ( seal ) with the crank but pan needs to be lowered but I don't have leaks something you would have to remove the alinement pins . If you have very high mileage put a new dampener on at this time.

17:40 question?? A1auto .... So I can make my own gasket sealer for the bottom timing cover? Because I have this thick rubber gasket where you have to drop the oil pan some just to install the timing cover for the bottom rubber u shape gasket to fix properly. What's the name of that oil gasket sealer brand or name?

I understand you guys have to sell your parts to make a living like we all do, but you should warn that this replacement IS COMPLICATED and should-work very careful not to damage the crankshaft’s threads. You make it so easy to replace. GUYS IS NOT SO EASY, PLEASE BE VERY BE CAREFUL. This video they made easy with only purpose of selling you the parts.

Hello. It isn't an oil slinger. The part he decribes as one is actually the Crank Position Trigger Ring. It is what the cover-mounted Crank Position Sensor uses to create a reference signal to the ECM.
