When I go over a hill (one you can almost catch air going 60 mph) I hear a clunk on the drivers front as the truck (2005 f150 4x4) crests the hill. I had upper control arms, 4x4 actuator replaced by a mechanic before this.

This is really cool. I've had what I would describe as a knocking sound for the last 2 years in my car and no one could tell me what it was. I'm so glad I found this video because I just noticed a few days ago that my tire moves exactly how his did in the start of the video. I'm super excited it's not something way worse. The best person to fix things is yourself. So glad I found this video!!! I replaced my cv joint hoping that was it and it didn't go away. Now I'm fairly confident it's the tire rod end

Great, thorough tutorial. Thanks. Don't forget the locking pin on the inner tie rod. It goes thru a little hole on the nut. We saw it break off the old one when he took it off.

Did this many time in the past on many cars and when you mark where the tie rod end is installed (number of turns sure helps), you don't need an expensive realignment job. Always worked for me without an alignment.

@ellingtonsk11 ай бұрын
Excellent video. I get a popping noise when turning either way. My wheel also shakes from side to side which suggest inner & outer tie rod on both sides. But the noise sounds like it is coming from my rack. My guess I need to change out the Rack & pinion. I've changed out the upper ball joints.

How do you narrow it down from tie rod vs wheel bearing?
@RealTerrible Жыл бұрын
Protip for the boot if it's too tight or hard to get on. Fold it around the edge and unfold it onto the rack before ziptying. Make sure it's seated correctly first of course.
@ivanoxx7 ай бұрын
problem is this is not really a diagnose because it is OBVIOUSLY knocking and easy to spot, problem starts when everything feels and looks tight but car is thumping , then real Diagnose starts

The diagnosis of this issue seems to be pretty identical to a bad hub assembly/wheel bearing. When you don't have the luxury of lifting the car - what might be a good way to tell the two issues apart?

Great guide. Question, Possible cause of a rhythmic noise at low speed going forward but not backward on a 2005 GMC Yukon XL all wheel drive. I wish I could add the sound. It does not seem to be a wheel bearing sound. It's more similar to rubber sole shoe crunch on a shiny tile or wood floor.
@TheRealAaronWitchey2 жыл бұрын
On some cars there is a locking washer that prevents the inner tie rod from coming loose. Either way, I would still use lock tite.

@SJJsolomonSJJ Жыл бұрын
Not stupid at all. If you don’t know then you don’t know. Tie rod is what help steer your vehicle. Driveshaft is what help make the vehicle go. It’s inserted into your transmission, and from your transmission to your rear end/axles
