@@555_Kochi_STi I guess you fill it until it runs out the tube?
@555_Kochi_STi4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewstewart1464 That was the idea. and it was basically the right level, if not a bit overfilled. Good enough for a work truck just farting around yard. I'm not sure on the history of that truck though. But it was likely just slapped together with mismatching on the years (as OP described) to get it back to work. Can't imagine it came out of the factory like that unless it was built on a Friday in early 65.

Lots of reasons to use a 9 inch. 1. NASCAR standard 2. Aftermarket support 3. Easy to work on. It's better to set it up on your bench back in your warm shop than lying on your back in the freezing rain at the track. 4. Pre-setup variations for different track conditions. 5. Keep spares on the shelf. 6. Pretty strong. 7. Non-tapered axles for easier length changes.

You know that plastic mesh that covers scuba tanks? I have that over my oil cooler and it deflects road junk really well and is light as a bonus. Last time I serviced the oil (I need to drain the cooler separately) I pulled the mesh off and there was zero damage to my oil cooler. Maybe something like this or even perforated stainless plate/mesh would be cheap insurance against unforseen debris ?

Lads, I have an LC with a nine inch and adjustable upper control arms to correct the pinion angle although I found that just using the top arms did rotate the diff and move the tyres back enough in those tiny wheel wells to rub on guards. I remedied by fitting adjustable lowers also from United speed shop. They will custom make to suit your needs as I needed to shorten the lower arms to correct my pinion angle.

The Ford 9" became the diff of choice for a few of reasons. As Al said. The serviceability is the biggest advantage with it. The 9" ring gear allowed larger gear sets that just don't fit into smaller housings. No C-Clips to hold in the axles, and being able to pop out the center housing at the track to change the gear ratio with another one that is set up and ready to go.

Another reason the 9in ford was popular was race classes that required positive axle retention (c-clip eliminators). One common feature for all banjo style axels that I know of. The 9 was one of the first that was common and didn't weigh a ton and a bit.

Supposed to have copper sealing washers under the nuts for the carrier housing. Some sealant on the threads doesn't hurt either. The studs can weep oil. I've never used a gasket there, those housings are usually not as flat as they should be and sealant is the fix.
